"ALLERGIC FUNGAL SINUSITIS
First described in 1981, allergic fungal sinusitis has become the most com-monly diagnosed and least understood form of fungal sinusitis. In the first report of this clinical entity in five patients with chronic fungal sinusitis, Millar and associates demonstrated marked type I hypersensitivity to As-pergillus fumigatus and noted patho-logic findings similar to those of pa-tients with allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA), ...In 95 patients with allergic fungal sinusitis (five with concomitant ABPA and two with allergic broncho-pulmonary mycosis (ABPM) caused...They termed the disease
allergic Aspergillus sinusitis. Subse-quent reports have indicated that the
primary etiologic agent is not As-pergillus but members of the dematia-ceous family."
