French term

qualité du rendu

French to English Other Manufacturing Office supplies
This term features in a list of quality criteria for office supplies to be supplied by the successful tenderer of an invitation to tender. It seems to be referring to a product characteristic. At first, I thought perhaps that the word “service” might have been omitted, which would give “quality of service provided”, but that didn’t really make sense in the context, as that part of the list seems to be referring to product characteristics – in the end, I decided that it might actually be literally “rendering quality”, but I'm not sure what that has to do with “office supplies”, which I presume are just staples, pens and paper, etc.! It could be that I need to go back to my client for more info, but if anyone could help now, that'd be fantastic! Many thanks!

Discussion

polyglot45 Mar 13, 2010:
rendu - the products delivered in the broadest sense of the word "delivered" - the quality of the finished products, the quality of the goods as they find their way on to the retail shelves .... I would just use "end product" here
Steve Melling Mar 13, 2010:
I'd go for "overall service quality".
Sarah Puchner Mar 13, 2010:
something about returns? I started to look this up but ran out of time, I'm wondering if it has something to do with returned products? Maybe the bidding companies are being judged on whether any of their products that consumers return to the retailer are returned because of poor quality? I know it seems strange then that "rendu" is singular, but may it is acting as a collective noun? Just an idea.
Travelin Ann Mar 13, 2010:
if it REALLY is stapes, pens and paper then wouldn't "presentation quality" or "quality of presentation" be more likely?
