Spanish term

fibritas ventriculares

Spanish to English Science Medical (general) Heart
In a description from Spain of the most severe level of asphyxia (due to oxygen concentrations of below 6%). It can't really mean "little fibres", can it?

"La respiración cesa, pero el corazón puede continuar latiendo durante unos minutos y se desarrolla la formación de fibritas ventriculares o estancamiento en dilatación extrema."

oops
Muriel Vasconcellos Mar 30, 2010:
Rita, thanks for the expert opinion It didn't make any sense to me, either.
Rita Tepper Mar 30, 2010:
ventricular fibrillation As a cardiologist I have never heard of the development of small ventricular fibers when breathing ceases. I believe it must be a typo for "fibrilación ventricular".
BristolTEc (asker) Mar 29, 2010:
That was my thinking too. It looks like a mistake to me, but it says "fibritas" and I cannot see a simple typo here, so perhaps it is right and there is something I don't understand.
Andrew Campbell Mar 29, 2010:
fibrillation?? "little fibres" (or something similar like filament) would be the literal translation, but I think it could also be some attempt to refer to ventricular "fibrilaciones", although I'm not sure that fits the context.

ventricular fibrillation

It doesn't make sense. The ventricle already has fibers. It doesn't develop more of them under stress.

I think it's an inaccurate description of the development of ventricular fibrillation.

small ventricular fibres (UK)/fibers (US)

Many hits for "ventricular fibres", but I think this is referring to ventricular fibres in pre-natal or newly born subjects.
