Spanish term

los ríos nacían y morían (in this context)

Spanish to English Science Geology Geomorphology
Obviously, rivers aren't literally born and do not literally die, and since this is a fairly technical article, I would normally speak of the river as having its source in the mountains or originating there, but in the following context,

"Los ríos que nacían en las montañas morían en el centro de la cuenca, formando grandes lagos."

I'm wondering if I should maintain the 'poetry' of the source document and keep the metaphor. If not, any suggestions on a better way of expressing "morían?"

Thanks!

Thanks, Rich. This was a good halfway measure. In the end, the agency's editor changed "born" to "originated" but kept "ended their journey."

Two options, the second being more "poetic."
