Na 3 maanden is een implantaat meestal voldoende geheeld om te kunnen belasten. Hiervoor dient het implantaat voorzien te worden van een (custom) abutment en een kroon. Dit betekent dat de positie van het implantaat in de mond 1 op 1 gekopieerd dient te worden naar een gipsmodel zodat de tandtechnicus de kroonconstructie kan vervaardigen. Er wordt een speciaal afdrukabutment op het implantaat geschroefd waarna afdrukmateriaal om het abutment heen wordt gespoten. Met een afdruklepel wordt vervolgens de hele kaak en het abutment in een siliconemateriaal gekopieerd.

Transfer coping is a part of an orthopedic protocol used for an indirect implant body transfer copying.

Transfer coping consists of three elements: clamp band, trans- and supra-gingival parts. It is used with a closing screw.

Such a construction allows to position the analog in the implant properly, to receive the more accurate dental impression and fix it reliably in the impression paste

Zoals je kunt zien in de link hierboven, zijn die 'transfer copings' (die van jou zit er ook tussen) 'afdrukabutments' :
