Discussion

PeregrineFalcon Apr 20, 2010:
people who work in the field of electronics and electrical engineering in croatia mostly use word "šrafciger" (screwdriver) instead of odvijač. but it isn't correct. in all official literature they use (and they have to use) standard croatian word odvijač. the same goes for aircraft maintenance (my field) and all other industries and trades where all kinds of foreign words are used, but only in our slang. in all official literature only words from standard croatian language are allowed. the same goes for all possible fields of life, so it is, officially, priteg deblenjaka because this term is part of standard croatian language.
Petra Kliba Apr 20, 2010:
vang I am a sailor and I agree that "priteg deblenjaka" is maybe a correct translation of the English word, but in the sailor's world it is not used at all. We all call it vang and in the new Croatian history people tend to translate it to Croatian eventhough the only Craotian term used since the Yugoslawian dazs is "vang".
