Without proper context, I'm having to assume this is some kind of electrical plug?
I imagine this is referring to some other kind of socket mounted on the rest of the equipment, and this is the corresponding plug on the wiring harness intended to plug into it.
'Plug' may imply a specifically 'male' connector, but it does depend on context, as you can also have female plugs, and the term is sometimes simply used to refer to a cable-mounted connector that connects to a chassis-mounted socket, without specifying M or F
