English term

acoustic set

English to French Art/Literary Music Livre sur la carrière des Rolling STones
"Bob Geldof meets with the Rolling Stones in Paris in an attempt to recruit them for his fundraising initiative to alleviate the hunger crisis in east Africa. Although the whole group does not participate in Live Aid, they are represented notably. Ron Wood and Keith Richards accompany Bob Dylan in a sometime shaky acoustic set. Following them, Mick Jagger and Tina Turner perform with backing from Daryl Hall and John Oates’ band. Jagger also cuts a duet of the Motown classic “Dancing in the Streets” with David Bowie which was released as a single to benefit Live Aid".

I'm not sure of the meaning and translation of "acoustic set".
Thanks a lot for your help!

Thanks a lot !

that's how it seems to me, after reading the comments from French-speakers in response to your other question
MD64 (X) (asker) Mar 30, 2011:
Reading your comments I understand that the english word "set" is commonly used in french for music, is it ? So, I can translate both with "set" ("set court" and "set acoustique"), and so on throughout the whole text. Is it right ?
Martin Cassell Mar 30, 2011:
in the light of ... ... your subsequent question ("short set", http://www.proz.com/kudoz/english_to_french/music/4297205-sh... ), presumably you will want to use one solution throughout your text for "set": why not keep it as a loanword?

plenty of refs for "set acoustique" in just this kind of context.

That's what Dylan played before he went "electric," which was a very controversial change for his fans (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Dylan#Going_electric)

Thanks :)
Martin Cassell Mar 29, 2011:
a "set" is a group of songs performed together by one performer/combination
"acoustic" means not using electronic instruments

– glad to see we agree!

meaning In music, 'set' is a sequence of a number of pieces of music played as part of a concert, e.g.

'acoustic' means that it is played (more or less) without amplification — at least, not to the sort of excessive degree that is usual for pop concerts!

Configuration acoustique/Performance acoustique

Il s'agit d'une performance basée sur des guitares acoustiques non amplifiées, donc sans guitares électriques.

Configuration acoustique/Performance acoustique
