giring

Definition from own experience or research:
Jeg har sett en del eksempler på at "leverage" ukritisk oversettes med "lånefinansiering" eller "fremmedkapitalprosent." I mange tilfeller vil dette stemme, men det er også mulig å doble avkastningen på en investering uten å ta opp lån, f.eks. ved bruk av derivater.
Example sentences:
Høg giring kan brukast til å forklare både økonomiske triumfar og ... (Høgskulen i Sogn og Fjordane )
Konsernsjef og gründer Odd Brevik i Deep Sea Supply vil holde på selskapets giring fremover. - (NA24)
Peer comment(s):

agree Svein Hartwig Djaerff : This (gearing=giring) is definitely one of the meanings of this term, but can only be used in specific cases within the financial field and NOT in general!

The question is posed in bus/fin. I thought that "giring" would work when "leverage" is a noun, but not when it is a transitive verb (e.g. "leverage your talent"). Can you give an example of a general sentence where it can't be used?
