If these biased reports are to be believed, the Montanists saw the spiritual gifts as the exclusive possession of the prophets. No less a person than Tertullian in his challenge to Marcion affirmed that gifts of the Spirit such as prophecy (which he defined as prediction and revelation), visions, ecstasy and interpretation of tongues were ***"forthcoming from my side*** without any difficulty"; and elsewhere he writes that healing, revelation and exorcism were among the joys available to Christians.

I essentially agree with Peter's answer; this is just a different perspective.
As the 'gifts of the Spirit' are indeed regarded as gifts, which properly belong to the Spirit and serve the purposes of the Spirit, the person who has such gifts should (and properly would) regard himself or herself as simply a vehicle for the expression, action, or manifestation of the gifts, not as the owner of the gifts. Hence Tartullian (in this case) would not say 'I did such and such' (because that would be far too immodest), but instead 'the gifts are forthcoming from my side' (i.e., from or via me).
