safety (function) power supply

That's the best I can come up with.

While AES IS an "emergency power supply", it is not one that maintains power to all the functions of a building, or even just the computers, in replacement of the normal power supply, as "EPS" might suggest, but one that supplies power to the safety functions of a building such as escape lighting, fire safety systems (closing fire doors, opening fire vents, etc.).

emergency power supply

I'm assuming this is the same as alimentation electrique de secours/secourue, which are given in my AFNOR dictionary as "emergency or standy power supply". I can't think what else it could mean otherwise, as there'd be point in having anything other than a safe power supply.

Sorry, that should read "no point"!

neutral Tony M : Actually, it's not quite exactly the same thing, as Bourth points out.

disagree Christopher Erdal (X) : [in reply to your reply] Yes, indeed, but must emphasise the very stringent specifications, e.g.startup in 15 secs minimum, as it's for a life-support or similar system, not just an ordinary genset to keep the lights on

I thought the field was power generation?

Found in some document below with the reference to NSF 61-940. Not sure what it's worth though.
