Just wanted to add that this term seems to be used a bit in the forestry industry, and the article mentioned below talks about the use of one for 'slash', though they seem to be referring to the bundling of larger-diameter wood.

My searches lead my to the company that bought the "bundling technology". It's called Timberjack. There are lots of ghits for Timberjack bundling machine/system
