It seems to be a problem that can occur with vans and campers in particular, e.g. here:

This malfunction takes place during starting the engine as well (poor fuel-air mixture).

: Engines are usually big and heavy making it unlikely that they just disappear...

Usually the engine 'catches' again before it dies completely, thus 'bog down'
