Nel senso che è una determinazione dell’attraversamento a lasciare tracce, e nel tuo ordinare queste tracce d’attraversamento in una scrittura, che rimane comunque un mistero, una scrittura aliena.

I had thought of "trademark", as in the characteristic trademark of an artist, but it doesn't fit with the second use of gesto in the text you've quoted

"Gesto" in an artistic context generally refers to the artist's physical intervention or style. For painting, "brushstroke" can be a good option but other artistic genres will obviously require other solutions. "Manuality" is one fairly general option.
Whatever solution you go for in the end, it will have to bring out the key contrast in the text of gesto-as-"scrittura" and gesto-as-"tracce", i.e. intelligible "written" marks/traces vs plain marks of "attraversamento" ("penetration" or "passage", presumably), which are then arranged into a meaningful, albeit mysterious, form by the artist.
