quilting
I wondered whether it might be square quilting or something, but found...
one bed cover with squared quilting:
http://www.softandsoft.it/iris-copriletto-trapuntato-matrimo...
but in this one here the quilting is not squared:
http://www.softandsoft.it/wilma-trapuntino-matrimoniale-prim...
so it looks as though in English it 'd be just quilting -? There are many different (stitching) patterns in quilting.

Hi Tania, I will look a bit more, but this is how it seemed to me. I found one Italian site where they referred to "digitally positioned quilting", which sounded as though it might have been a translation of it, but no other refs. for that term in English, and it doesn't sound very convincing.

Here are a few different quilted items links:

on the "soft and soft" site the "piazzata" isn't translated in the English versions (though I realise the translation isn't very good):
Copriletto Trapuntato con trapuntatura piazzata a capo e con angoli stondati.
Quilted Bedcover provided with round edges.

Note from asker:
Hi Rachel, I had found the same thing. It is possible that in English it is just "quilting". I really don't know the meaning of this "piazzata". |

You are right, but unfortunately I do not rember where I found this term! It was some years ago...
But I used it in many official textile translations (on magazines and on the Internet) succesfully.

Note from asker:
Hi Marina, if you could provide some references, it would be very useful. The occurences on google don't seem to confirm this solution. |

trapunto / stuffed quilting
Technically speaking, it's a puffier variant of quilting.
see:

http://www.quiltersmuse.com/wholecloth_quilts4.htm
http://arts.jrank.org/pages/9841/Quilting.html
see this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quilting
where it gives this definition:
# Trapunto quilting - stuffed quilting, often associated with Italy.
# Machine Trapunto quilting - a process of using water soluble thread and an extra layer of batting to achieve trapunto design and then sandwiching the quilt and re-sewing the design with regular cotton thread.

Though I'm wondering whether they mean a "trapunto effect" quilting, if it is an industrial mass produced job. It does give an easy way to personalise the quilt.

Note from asker:
Thank you Shera Lyn. However let us not forget we are dealing with upholstered furniture here and not with embroidered clothing. That is why I am not sure if this is the right solution. Unfortunately I do not have a picture. I have asked for an explanation to the customer but none received yet. |
