sand disposal pocket
just an idea: I don't think there's an "official" term for this.

: I'd have to agree - but add my discusiion points anyhow.

: My hestitation here is that with more info, a much more accurate translation could surely be made. Another idea along these lines could be "sand release pocket" but this also sounds "translated". Without more info, I would agree with the answer here! :-)

mesh pocket
...if it is mesh (see Mr Murray's discussion post!)
The idea that the pocket releases sand would be included in its description as made of mesh (again, if it is mesh!)
For example:
"Mesh liner and mesh quarter-top and rear pockets, so water and sand flow through"
www.shopwiki.co.uk/Swim shorts

Mr Murray (X)
: My main reservation is the 'svuota' prefix, which suggests it's a type that has to 'dumped out' or 'emptied manually'.

I see what you mean. Although then I think, in the end, most (though not all of course) pockets can be emptied manually, by design, whether swimwear or not. I'm thinking of "svuota" in this case as, roughly speaking, "permitting sand passage".

Sarah Jane Webb
: with Mr. Murray. Men's swimming trunks normally have mesh pockets, don't they? Though have no idea how to convey the idea of "svuota" other than the suggested "disposal" :-(

I would think that yes, they do. But then again, most (not all, of course) pockets of all kinds can be turned inside out to release contents. Without a photo or more extensive description, who can say. :-/

sand-tight pocket
an alternative
Peer comment(s):

Eileen Cartoon
: if it were sand-tight it would not let sand in; here instead the question is to let the sand out

"Tasca svuotasabbia con piccolo logo applicato"
I really would like to thank Mr Murray for his interesting explication! I put "sand disposal pocket"! see you soon!!
More information about the element would yield a more accurate translation.
If there is no further information to be had, Sarah Jane Webb's solution is admirable!
- meshed or netted to let sand through
- grommeted to let sand out
- reversible to dump sand out
And they're usually labelled as such. Generically, I doubt there's one name.
