日本語 term

共ひも

日本語 から 英語 マーケティング 繊維製品/衣服/ファッション
This is in a description of a tunic. Another item (a belted jacket) lists 共ベルト, and all these mentions are followed by ベルト通し付. As in, 共ひも・ベルト通し付 and 共ベルト・ベルト通し付. I assume it's a matching string/rope belt (with belt loops), but I'm a bit shaky on what the right term would be. Thanks in advance!

Discussion

Raitei Sep 3, 2010:
The problem with "matching string" is that there is the possibility that it doesn't match. In most cases the material of the string-tie belt and the primary garment do match, however, getting burned by so many 例外の人名の読み方 taught me that I should NEVER guess.
michiko tsum (X) Sep 3, 2010:
"Matching string" sounds perfectly fine.

String-tie belt

In these types of cases、it would be safer to request a photo of the item from the client. Although I am 95% sure they are talking about the waist area, the term can also be used to denote a tunic's shoulder strap(s). However, since the word is followed by 「ベルト通し付」, it is obvious that it is a string-tie belt

same fabric strings

I'm not sure if there is an exact English terms expressing this, but the meaning of this word "共―” is;

共布/ともぎれ/ともぬの: same fabric....using the same fabric of the garment front side

共ひも/共ベルト: String, belt, (or belt loops) made using the same fabric of the garment front side

Or "common" fabric (to the garment body) may work.
Peer comment(s):

agree Peishun CHIANG : It means the jacket comes with the belt made of the same material. Here, the stress is put on "the same fabric /material. "

string waist tie / with matching string waist tie

1) Yes, 共ベルト・ベルト通し付 would be “matching belt with belt loops" becomes it comes with a matching belt, etc...

2) A “共ひも” is usually a waist tie of a matching (using the same) fabric sewn up as a thin rope or ribbon-like tie, but sometimes it can be a thin cord or rope which is not necessarily of the same fabric – however, it “matches” or "comes along with" the outfit.

3) It's impossible to know for sure without actually viewing the item.

4) It is a loose thin tie for around the waist as contrasted to the conventional image of a "belt" which has a stiffer quality and often made with an inner support.

5) The last website that I’ve posted below is an example of a “matching waist tie” that does not use the same fabric.

6) I'm sure that there is a photo of the item in the "actuals" in that case, I think "waist tie" or "matching waist tie" would be sufficient.

Here is are some websites with outfits using various waist ties. They can be called waist tie belt or waist tie.

Note from asker:
Joyce, a special thanks for your detailed answer, too. This wording also seems to be widely used, but not quite as much as "string-tie belt." Thanks, though!
