Discussion

Douglas Bissell May 21, 2010:
Ok Helena,

My students just got back. The difference is that a conta conjunta needs the signatures of all the account holders and as such is commonly a business account where 2 or 3 directors have to sign each cheque. A conta solidária is a joint account as a married couple may have where the signature of either person is enough Resumindo e baralhando, joint account is great for conta solidária but you will need to change the term you have used for conta conjunta. Every cloud has a silver lining... and every silver lining has a cloud.
Douglas Bissell May 21, 2010:
Helana, I have just spoken to some of my students who work in a Brazilian Investment bank and they have confirmed that solidária e conjunta are not exactly the same thing. As soon as they mail me with further details I'll let you know. They also said that Unless you actually have to compare the two, they are both called "generically" joint accounts

First, please accept my apologies, I had not noticed the discussion entries. Can you see what, if any, are the actual differences between the "conta conjunta" and "conta solidária"? Perhaps they are just merketing terms for the same thing. If such were the case, I's try to go back to source and offer them a short list of potential terms such as 1. Special joint account, 2. Bank xxx joint account etc.
Helena Grahn (asker) May 21, 2010:
Helena Grahn (asker) May 21, 2010:
nao eh joint account, pq no texto tambem existe conta conjunta

(Full access) joint account
