Song lyrics. The singer is saying he went out and about and found a new love. I'd like some ideas for translation in this context. I want clarification on (1) "fui andando" -- "I went wandering", "I went roaming", something else? and (2) "por aí" -- should I take that as "over there" or "somewhere"?
Proposed translations
(English)

Comment: "Thank you, Antonio and everyone else. This is one where I wanted to divide points because in fact "roaming" was more appropriate to my context but rhythmically I needed something that would fit with "por aí". "Around" seemed too plain to me at first, but the alternative -- "wandering around over there" -- didn't'seem to me to be something a person would say if looking for love. So, I went with "roaming around". (Sarah, I agree that "around" is implied, but my challenge was a rhythmic one.) I still wish I'd been able to come up with something slightly different, since the varation on "fui andando por aí" was "fue andando pelo mundo". "

: Eduardo suggestions answer both questions, because por ai does not indicate a particular place

I went roaming
Or
i drifted away
or 'I roamed to another place'?
I think that the 'around' is implied if you use 'roaming', and not needed.

I was going out and about
Acho que esta é a expressão mais adequada para "estava andando por aí... è uma expressão muito usada em inglês do Reino Unido
