Building upon what David suggests, I feel that "lead" may work well in your particular context, since the faithful are instructed to set an example by living an upright/moral lifestyle.
"The path of righteousness" is just another variation on the theme of "the right path".
A similar expression can be found in Psalm 23:
"He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness..." (Ps 23:3, NKJV)
Since the Psalms (Zabur) are part of the Islamic tradition as well, it wouldn't be too far-fetched to see a reverberation of the above passage in the juxtaposition of "lead... path" and "righteousness" (upright behaviour/добронравие) in your sentence.
If we had the actual reference from the Qur'an cited by the sermon's author, perhaps the translation would be easier. Unfortunately, I am not nearly as familiar with the Qur'an as I am with the Tanakh/Old Testament.
