Смысл тут не в том, что они там живут плотно (плотность населения может быть и маленькой), а в том, что в этих районах они составляют подавляющее большинство населения

В случае с нивхами, не думаю, что можно назвать эти зоны densely populated/high density, густонаселённости там как таковой нет... просто имеется в виду то, что они там "кучками" живут, а не по отдельности...
