"garantizar la conservación de los valores naturales de la Comunidad" - the reasoning behind halting the granting of further permits for wind farms.

Any thoughts on these "valores"? I'm drawing to a close with the first draft of a translation which I have to deliver tomorrow am....

Thanks to everyone for their help For this text, natural assets seemed to work best, but we've got a very useful collection together now for "valores" for future referece.

No mention of people ...in the text at all, but lots of references to land use (the fact that wind farms can be built on land which is not otherwise authorized for construction, but categorized as for agricultural, livestock rearing etc use.

Hi Noni, does the rest of the text give any indication as to whether they're referring to the "valores" of the physical setting of the local community, or the people living there? It's quite hard to say otherwise... :)

Noni's follow-up question Hi Noni. I never came across natural values. As I peer through google, 'natural values' does appear, but I am not convinced it fits with what you propose... but you best know your client.

I think valores has a somewhat economic meaning here. The term natural assets seems to be quite common. Here's the definition:

Heritage asset

I did a fair amount of work for the sustainability group of the World Bank... in the context, the document is talking about people's values.

natural charm

I'm reading this from a more 'physical setting' point of view, since wind farms are (arguably) quite an eye-sore on any horizon. I can also see why a "preserving the natural charm" line could be used by politicians (perhaps) at a time like this too, in light of so much corruption coming out in this sector in Spain recently. The "let's save our beautiful charming community" line is just perfect for politicians, now that lots of them have been exposed...
I could be totally on the wrong lines here, but that's what I'm getting from the text, given the fact that it’s the reasoning behind halting the granting of further permits for wind farms.
