Thanks for the help...

Chapultepec splitfin or mexcalpique

I found this option at http://www.tmm.utexas.edu/tnhc/fish/na/goodeida/girardin/gvi...
Girardinichthys viviparus
Chapultepec splitfin / mexcalpique
GOODEIDAE - splitfins

I like it because it stresses that it is from Chapultepec, and avoids using **Girardinichthys viviparus**. I would also leave mexcalpique, as it is an endemic species and this preserves also the name coming from nahuatl.

I sampled a small lake in Chapultepec Park in Mexico City for Girardinichthys viviparus. This goodeid is endemic to the Valle de México, the endorheic (no natural outlet) basin where Mexico City is located. Girardinichthys viviparus is critically endangered, and is currently known from only three areas, the lakes of Chapultepec Park, Lago de Xochimilco, located on the southern edge of Mexico City, and a small spring tributary to the Río Tula in the adjacent state of Hidalgo, north of the Valle de México.

agree Michele Fauble : Yes, probably 'Girardinichthys viviparus' rather than 'Girardinichthys multiradiatus' (based on distribution).//Although I think 'Chapultepec splitfin' is an excellent name, 'Girardinichthys viviparus' is commonly called 'black sailfin goodeid' in English

Thanks Michele :) I liked that option, which includes a photograph of the male and female. the page is written in English by a researcher, so it seems a nice option so it will not be confused with any old sailfin :)

neutral Michele Fauble : Distribution: upper Rio Lerma and Zempoala lagoon in Morelos, Mexico.// Yes, but the distribution of most fish species is more restricted. The 'mexcalpique' in Chapultepec is 'Girardinichthys viviparus', not ' Girardinichthys multiradiatus.

Sorry, I meant to type "different" varieties.
Peer comment(s):

disagree Michele Fauble : None of these species even belong to the same genus. The 'mexcalpique' in Chapultepec is 'Girardinichthys viviparus', 'black sailfin goodeid'. /'Mexcalpique (splitfin)' could refer to any number of species.

Thanks Michele, I didnt know which species, so chose a middle of the road answer. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. :)
agree Muriel Vasconcellos : I think this is the safest answer, because you don't know the species.

agree David Brown : mexcalpique (splitfin) would be how I would translate it

neutral Michele Fauble : Striped Goodea, Golden Sailfin Goodeid, but based on distribution, the 'mexcalpique' in Chapultepec is 'Girardinichthys viviparus', not ' Girardinichthys multiradiatus'.
