Hi,

I really need some urgent help!!

I received a docx.ttx file and the .docx file, but as I had not installed Office 2007 I could not open them, so I asked a friend to convert the .docx file into a MS Word 2003 .doc file and everything seemed great.
Now I have a translated doc.ttx file but I cannot clean it up (nor save the target as doc file) becuase there is an "error writing breaks".

(afterwards) I also tried installing Office 2007 and translating the .docx with the TM I had created, but in this case, I get a .docx.ttx file which I cannot clean up either, because of an "error in the tag structure".
Does anyone know how to solve this one?

I'd be very grateful!!!!

Best regards,

Missing breaks May 12, 2009

Hi Laura,

Have a look at your original Word file (display all) and search if there are missing paragraph marks, especially before a section break or a page break.
If you have for example a section break which is not preceeded by a paragraph mark, simply put your cursor there an manually insert a break by pressing Enter. Do so for every missing break and retranslate your document within TagEditor.

Please use the forum search May 12, 2009

This has been discussed and solved here previously.

To put it short: open your Word document, replace section breaks by a paragraph mark followed by section break (to do so, press CTRL+H, insert ^b in search field and ^p^& in replace field). Save the file. Open the ttx file and try now again to save target. If you have some luck, that will work. Otherwise you will simply have to retranslate your new doc file with your TM.

further explanation... May 12, 2009

Hi Sylvain and Jerzy,

thank you for your quick answers.
I am sorry, but I don't know what you are telling me to do. I usually deliver unclean .ttx files and I am not familiar with the structure of Word documents. Where do I get a detailed explanation on the breaks and paragraph marks?
The document has 87 pages and I am not sure what I am looking for... so I am lost...

Thanks again

Laura

Just open the doc May 12, 2009

and do that:

press CTRL+H, insert ^b in search field and ^p^& in replace field
now replace all occurances
save the doc

Open your ttx and try to save targe. Usually this simply works. If not, open the modified doc in TagEditor and retranslate it from TM.

Download MS compatibility pack May 12, 2009

Hi Laura,
first of all, to open the DOCX file in Word 2003, you will need to download and install the MS Office Compatibility Pack from microsoft.com.
Then, follow the steps suggested by Jerzy.

great! May 12, 2009

Hi,

I just realized that my Spanish version of Word uses Ctrl + L instead of Ctrl+H, and that was why I did not understand how easy it was!! (Ctrl+H didn't do anything and it took me a while to understand why)
But my problems are not solved yet, because it only changed my error message
Now tag editor tells me "error while converting Word document"

The solution was already proposed here May 12, 2009

Retranslate the file from your TM.
This is nothing special, that you get the quoted error message now - Word document structure has been changed.
Sometimes (more often than not) those changes are not that big to stop the conversrion process, but in your case it seems that the changes were bigger.
Use the "Translate" function in the Workbench and check then, if everything has been translated - you can jump to untranslated segmenty by pressing CTL+ALT+(NUM+) in Tageditor.

Hi all,

I was finally able to "save as target" my translation - of word 97 source file.

It seems that everything is fine, as far as the text is concerned.

Problem persists, though, with the images with text (and the particular text images are heavily loaded with text within them).

The images are unclear and parts of the text are placed over other parts making the text unreadable.

In brief, TagEditor had a problem to save the images and the text in them correctly.

Has any of you had such an experience? Any suggestions?

Help very much appreciated!

for clarification.... Mar 3, 2010

My computer system is Windows 7, the document I translated is doc.(word 97).

The steps I followed to translate it:

* I replaced all ^b with ^p^& in my original file.

* Saved the file as a newer word version.

*Translated it in TagEditor.

*Put both the original file and the target one in the same folder.

*Saved file as target.

Jerzy's solution works Apr 28, 2010

At first I got the error message: "error while converting to word document"
Then I saved the docx as just doc, and got the "error writing breaks" error message
Then I followed Jerzy's advice from May 12, 2009, and it worked beautifully.
Seven occurrences were replaced, I reconverted the doc to ttx, ran the memory through the first 5 of 17 pages, and was then able to convert the semi-translated ttx back to doc without any problems!
