Bio
Welcome to my PRO-Z personal page!

This is a quick bio in relation to my experience as a translator. Hope you enjoy it.

I was born in Cuba (La Havana) where I was raised until the age of 10; at which point I moved to France (Paris).

I lived in France (Paris) for over 25 years This is where I received my education (obtained a French Baccalaureate in Languages and Literature and an Associate degree in International Business). I've worked in various sectors ranging from Real Estate to Business to Business Marketing.
Although I wasn't technically born in France, I have native French fluency, and my pronunciation is without any accent, unless Parisian is considered an accent. I have a deep knowledge of the French culture and its most intricate vocabulary nuances.

I have been living in the US for the past 10 years, my wife is a college English Teacher and I have been working in various fields requesting the highest level of French and English fluency (Bi-lingual Corporate Associate and Marketing Assistant for INTUIT, Bi-lingual Commercial and Residential Real Estate Broker for COLDWELL-BANKER, Bi-lingual Quality Assurance for GOOGLE)

Freelance Translator wasn't my first choice of career path, but turns of events and circumstances led me to it.

It all started in 2006: 1- In 2006 and 2007:
I personally guided a married couple of French Doctors (Psychiatrists) during their stay in Miami Beach for a convention hosted by a pharmaceutical company. I translated for them dozen of booklets, and informational documentation directly distributed by the Pharmaceutical Company
Translation and live interpretation of several tape recordings taken during the sessions.
In addition to the convention, the married couple decided to prolong their stay and were looking into purchasing an investment property in Miami Beach. I guided them through the whole process of buying real estate in Florida, ranging from translating properties description to real estate contracts and various notary and legal documents.
They were so satisfied with my service that they requested my help again in 2007 and in 2009.
They also referenced my services to their colleagues, for whom I still perform some translations services!
All names and references are available upon request.

2- In 2008:
I helped a Real Estate agency translating from English into French over 90 new construction buildings in the area of Miami Beach and Downtown Miami.
My job was to describe in ~400 words the features and amenities for each building, in a manner that would attract a French clientele. Most of the time, in addition to a regular translating job, I also had to create my own lines in French to complete the 400 words objective.
This important project brought me many more related and unrelated translation jobs in Tourism (websites), Marketing (Spanish and English speaking customers) and Technical (Constructions and Heavy Industry companies)

3- In 2009:
I took two major online courses in Software Localization and continued improving my skills as a translator in specialized fields while increasing a network of translation agencies and direct customers (worked on dozen of translation project).

I also joined Proz at that moment.

4- In 2010:
Most significant jobs (EN > FR):
- Translation of an Old 19th Century French book - 590 pages!
- Translation AND Proofreading of a multinational corporation's Intranet and Employee's Manual (75 pages)
- Translation of a Steam Turbines instruction manual - over 90,000 words!
- Translation and Proofreading of several video game manuals for several companies
- Translation of Road Safety instructional manual (~7500 words)

5- 2011:
2011 has been an excellent year for me, I have tripled my income compared to 2010 and was able to establish rock solid and long term relationships with several agencies that entrust me with a constant flow of translation projects.
I have added to my Portfolio of Clients prestigious companies such as Microsoft, Nintendo, DHL Express, Philips, The Wall Street Journal, Intuit, Volkswagen Canada... just to name a few...

6- 2012:
In July 2012, I hit the 500,000 words mark in one year!
With a few months left in the fiscal year, charging an average of $0.09/word and looking at my current portfolio of Direct Customers and Translation Agencies, I'm fairly satisfied with 2012 and upcoming years earnings forecasts.
