Profile
I am a Master’s qualified translator of Spanish, Portuguese and Japanese into English with a background in mathematical modelling, software programming and public health research. I am an experienced user of translation memory tools including SDL Trados Studio, memoQ and Wordfast Pro.
Translation experience
I have been a full-time translator and proofreader since September 2013. In 2012-13 I studied Scientific, Technical and Medical Translation with Translation Technology at Imperial College London. As part of this course, I spent three months at the Universitat Jaume I in Castellón de la Plana, Spain, writing my dissertation on the translation of medical review articles.
I am an associate member of the Institute of Translating & Interpreting (AITI), former joint coordinator of the ITI Western Regional Group and a member of the ITI Spanish, Portuguese and Medical & Pharmaceutical Networks. As well as professional translation experience, my background includes volunteer translation and proofreading for Kiva and The Rosetta Foundation, as well as volunteer proofreading and formatting for Project Gutenberg.
Scientific expertise
Prior to studying translation, I received a PhD in Complexity Sciences from the University of Bristol. My thesis discussed a dynamic network-based model for the spread and evolution of sexually transmitted infections. Two papers based on this work have been published in Theoretical Population Biology and PLOS Computational Biology. My academic career also included work on research projects related to cancer informatics, smart power grids and biodiversity in food webs, as well as studying mathematics and computer science to Masters level.
