Bio

My professional background bridges translation, engineering, and programming, giving me a unique perspective in both linguistic and technical fields.
My translation career began with translating a service manual for a gear cutting machine from English to Traditional Chinese. Later, I translated numerous English patent applications into Traditional Chinese. Currently, at my company, I translate various industrial and internal specifications from English to Traditional Chinese, assisting suppliers in more accurately and efficiently understanding requirements related to quoting, manufacturing, inspection, and issue resolution. With the introduction of large language models (LLMs), I enjoy utilizing these tools to accelerate the translation process and improve translation quality. I ask these LLMs for the information and clarification I need without going to consult a real expert. However, I always cross-reference the responses from different LLMs, and further verify the information through independent Google searches and my own judgment to assess the groundness. I also ask these LLMs to review my translations or provide translations for me to review. Also, as a part-time freelancer, I appreciate the opportunity to collaborate with agencies and well-known companies across different fields, gaining valuable inspiration and experience from these interactions.
My educational background is primarily in mechanical engineering and computer science. My Master’s thesis focused on the control, modeling, and analysis of an XY table. During my studies, I developed proficiency in PC-based control, CNC machines, and programming languages such as C/C++, Java, and Matlab. In 2002, I pursued a Doctoral degree at National Cheng Kung University, researching motor learning in healthy individuals and rehabilitation for stroke patients.
In my current role as a project engineer, in addition to part and supplier development, I automate data processing and document workflows using tools such as Microsoft Power Automate, VBA, and Python. My work facilitates the automatic and periodic extraction and integration of data from our ERP system and external websites, streamlining routine reports on tool life, exchange rates, raw material pricing, shipping totals, and supplier invoices.
I believe continuous learning is essential for facing future challenges. To that end, I have developed additional skills in languages, software, and programming. I challenged myself to the TOEIC test, aiming for a score of at least 950, and achieved 980. For me, learning languages has been a lifelong pursuit. Over time, I think “language” is a comprehensive term for knowledge. Chinese, English, and Japanese are languages for interpersonal communication. Programming languages are languages we use to communicate with computers or electronic devices. Mechanics and mechanism design are the languages we use to communicate with machines. I can “speak” each of these languages to some degree.
