I have been working with languages for over 30 years, and used my knowledge of French, Arabic and Russian during a military career spanning over 20 years.
Since leaving the forces, I have been concentrating solely on French, and have used my language skills in a variety of settings: translating, interpreting, transcribing, cultural mediation and teaching.
In addition to possessing linguistic skills relevant to a wide range of military subjects, I have also worked in engineering (HVAC, oil & gas pipelines), the timber industry, travel and tourism, business operations/contracts, healthcare and hand & power tools.
My most recent translation projects include a series of operations manuals for a French airline (ongoing, and covering flight operations, emergency procedures, engineering, health & safety, airfield instructions, international regulations and medical procedures), a Transport of Dangerous Goods package for an aviation training provider and the documentation of a large contract for the supply of military vehicles to the defence ministry of a European government.
During my time in the Royal Navy I also developed a keen interest in sub-Saharan African affairs, and have recently been using experience gained in this sphere to contribute to the efforts of a number of agencies in support of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals, notably for the eradication of poverty, conflict prevention, public health and sanitation, and humanitarian crisis response.
Widely travelled in the francophone world, and irredeemably inquisitive, I would very happy to discuss projects relating to my niche skills, in addition to any French-English work of a more general nature.
