Spanish to English: Post-extractivism in Argentina: A new arena for alternatives to development General field: Bus/Financial
Translation - English In Argentina it is evident that so-called extractivist industries, such as mining or single-crop agriculture, are players in the avid consumption of vast quantities of natural resources and their export to global markets. Despite the widespread belief that this has no adverse impact on the country, the reality is quite different. Argentina is one of a few countries which practice all types of extractive industries: mining, oil extraction, agriculture and fishing.
These strategies have a two-fold effect: they generate strong dependency on global markets, and they unleash a range of adverse impacts on society and the environment which far exceed their economic benefits.
