Der Song gehört zur Rebellion und ist die Fanfare wie das Schlaflied des Aufstands. Der Protestsong ist eine Waffe, d.h. die effektivste musikalische Form in Bezug auf die Verbindung von Botschaftsvermittlung, emotionaler Affektion der Zuhörerschaft und Herstellung von Gemeinschaft. Zugleich ist der Protestsong eine Ware. Im Verklingen dieses Songs scheint das durch ihn herbei gesungene Vorhaben erledigt und der Musikindustrie überantwortet.
Zwei entsprechende Presentations- rahmen des Songs: Demonstration und Musikvideo, lassen dieses Spannungsfeld des Protestsongs entstehen: Ausgehend von der cultural performance Demonstration möchten wir unterschiedliche Formate und Szenen entwickeln, die das widersprüchliche Wesen des Protestes und dessen Bühne als Verbindung von Singularität und Gemeinschaft musikalisch, medial und szenisch untersuchen.
Das Musikvideo in seiner ambivalenten Eigenschaft als werbendes und zugleich ästhetisch eigenständiges Objekt bildet ein zentrales formales Referenz -system für „Songs of Rebellion“. Dem Musikvideo immanente Techniken wie z.B. harte Szenenschnitte oder unnatürliche Tempoalternationen, wie auch künstliche Filter, stereotype Perspektiven und Kameraabstände können in ihrer Live-Inszenierung bestehende sozialpolitische Handlungsfelder durchkreuzen und Prozesse von Manipulation wie Affektion sichtbar machen.
„Songs of Rebellion“ spielt mit den aus Song, Protest und Medium entstehenden Polarisationen - mit Widerstand, der sich als politisch-sozial, rebellisch-subversiv oder als höchste Form der Anpassung artikuliert und dabei eine kompromisslose, brachiale, wie auch eine körperliche, emotionale und verführerische Sprache spricht.

Song belongs to rebellion and is fanfare and lullaby thereof. Protest Song is a weapon, i.e., the most effective musical form in terms of combining message-delivery, emotional effect in the audience, and community-building. Protest Song is simultaneously a commodity: as it fades away, the venture it has brought about seems consummated and a betrayal by the music industry .
Two corresponding presentation frameworks create the Protest Song’s field of tension: Demonstration and Music Video. Proceeding from cultural performance demonstration, we want to develop contrasting formats and settings, investigating musically, medially, and scenically the contradictory nature of protest and its stage as a combination of singularity and community.
Music Video forms a central formal frame of reference for "Songs of Rebellion”, in its ambivalent quality as an advertisement yet an aesthetically independent object. Techniques inherent in music video, (e.g. abrupt scenic edits or unnatural tempo alterations), as well as artificial filters, stereotypical perspectives or camera distances, can - in live staging- circumvent existing social policy arenas , making visible processes of manipulation and arousal.
”Songs of Rebellion" plays with the polarizations emerging from song, protest and medium; with resistance articulating itself as political-social, rebellious-subversive or as the highest form of adaptation, whilst all the while speaking an uncompromisingly brutal, as well as physical, emotional and seductive language.

Source text - German Der offensichtlichste Gegensatz ist vielleicht die Kombination und Konfrontation von popmusikalischen Elementen mit der zeitgenössischen Musik. Die Verbindung Neuer Musik mit anderen Genres, welche im weitesten Sinne der experimentellen Popmusik und Elektronik zuzuordnen sind, ist augenscheinlich und in allen Stücken explizit erkennbar. Es gibt hier verschiedene Ansätze, die bei der Fusion der Inhalte und Sprachen auftreten. Relevante Faktoren aus der populären Musik sind für mich die Produktionstechnik, Unmittelbarkeit, performative Codecs und Klangsprache. Zwar habe ich auch relativ früh angefangen Instrumente zu spielen, doch war und ist der Computer immer mein eigentliches Instrument gewesen. Als Teenager habe ich begonnen Klangcollagen zu erstellen und mit MIDI-Sequenzern und Tracker-Software Stücke zu schreiben. Damit hatten die Arbeitsweise und Art der Komposition und Produktion bei mir schon immer einen konstruierten, artifiziellen Aspekt. Da alle meine Stücke komplett verstärkt sind und mit Elektronik und Zuspielung arbeiten, war es für mich immer ein erklärtes Ziel diesen Produktionsansatz auch auf die Live-Situation zu übertragen. Hieraus resultiert natürlich die Frage, wie sich dieser Ansatz mit Live-Instrumenten sinnvoll vereinen lässt: Die Vorzüge oder Möglichkeiten dieser Ästhetik kommen mit einigen Risiken einher: Differenzierte Kammermusikalität, Dynamikumfang, Komplexität der Klangsprache, Verhältnis zwischen Spieler, Klangresultat und Inszenierung. Es liegt in der Natur der Sache, dass kein Ansatz alles leisten kann, und so erkauft man sich auch mit diesem Ansatz Möglichkeiten durch Reduktion an anderer Stelle. Eine wesentliche Herausforderung besteht darin, trotz dieses Wegfalls, die Tür für eine Ästhetik mit einem Mehrwert zu öffnen, welche nicht schon durch die Popmusik abgedeckt ist. Es wäre unzweckmäßig, etwas nachzubauen, das ein anderes Genre besser leisten kann. Ein Neue-Musik-Konzert muss nicht das erfüllen, was ein Popauftritt, ein Rave oder ein Punkkonzert leisten können - aber es lassen sich Elemente isolieren und in einem Kunstmusikkontext nutzbar machen. Klanglich können das beispielsweise die Reduktion von Material sowie die besondere Produktionstechnik sein. Weitere Ziel können dabei das Analytische, die Abstraktion und die damit verbundene Suche nach einer Verallgemeinerbarkeit sein.
Translation - English Perhaps the most obvious contradiction is the combination and confrontation of pop elements with contemporary music. Explicitly apparent in all my pieces is the combination of new music with other genres, that are–in a broad sense–related to experimental pop and electronic music. A number of approaches are used to merge contents and languages. Relevant factors from popular music are for me the production techniques, immediacy, performative codec devices, and tonal language. Although beginning to play musical instruments when relatively young, my true instrument is and has always been the computer. The creation of sound collages and writing pieces with MIDI Sequencers and tracker software began as a teenager. My working method and composition style, as well as production processes, have therefore always had a constructed, artificial aspect. All of my pieces being fully amplified and operating with electronics and playbacks, my aim is always to relocate this approach to live situations. This naturally means questioning how to expediently combine electronics with live instruments: the advantages or possibilities of this aesthetic contain some risks; differentiated chamber musicality, dynamic range, the complexity of tonal languages, the relationships between performers, the resulting sound and staging. It is in the nature of things that no procedure can achieve everything, and so too with this approach, one must bargain for possibilities by a reduction elsewhere. It is a major challenge despite this to open doors to an aesthetic with an added value not already covered by pop music. There is no point in recreating something other genres do better. A new music concert does not have to fulfill the expectations one might have of a pop show, a rave or a punk concert - but certain elements can be isolated and harnessed for an art music context. Sonically, this could be exemplified by the reduction of material or the specific production technology. Another aim could be analytical, abstract and the associated search for universality.

Source text - German ##### bezieht sich immer wieder auf den Stoffwechsel, den Metabolismus.Der heutige Anlass ist ein exemplarischer Gegenstand dieser "Büroarbeit". Denn wir stehen hier im "Garten" ...und wissen noch nicht, was uns gleich darin erwartet. Ist der Raum leer, oder hat man zum Jubiläum den ganzen Rumpelkeller nach oben getragen und eine Ausstellung überstandener Risiken anhand der ungeordneten Relikte und Dokumente einiger Jahrzehnte Kunstgeschichte inszeniert, die sich hier zugetragen hat? Wie viele Künstler haben hier ihre erste Ausstellung gezeigt, wie viele haben hier Projekte realisiert, die sie selbst in großen Museen nicht ausführen konnten, wie viele haben – ohne nach einem effizienten Verhältnis von verfügbaren Mitteln, Aufwand und Wirkung zu fragen – keine Mühen gescheut. Viele Künstler haben sich von der fast sakralen Atmosphäre dieses Raumes leiten lassen und mit existentiellen Inhalten darauf reagiert. #### macht da keine Ausnahme: "Where do they go, when they walk out and leave the body behind?", heißt es im Libretto ...., das wir gleich hören werden. Es ist bezeichnend dafür, dass ..... Kunst nicht mit Event verwechselt wird.

I grew up in the beautiful Waitakere Ranges in Auckland, New Zealand . My interests focussed from an early age on reading, art, writing and music and these culminated in a succession of Music Degrees from Auckland University and the Musikhochschule in Freiburg,Germany.
My language skills were honed by living in a German youth hostel from the beginning and teaching flute in the Black Forest area and the Kaiserstuhl, whilst (mostly)retaining my sense of humor. I am used to working to a deadline, performing under pressure, and striving towards excellence.
After 30 years of constant traveling and performing I am grateful now for my wonderful flute students and for the opportunity to work linguistically, helping others present the best possible version of their work.
Ich bin in den wunderschönen Waitakere Ranges in Auckland, Neuseeland aufgewachsen. Meine Interessen konzentrierten sich von klein auf auf Lesen, Kunst, Schreiben und Musik, was zu einer Reihe von Musikabschlüssen an der Auckland University und der Musikhochschule in Freiburg führte.
Meine Sprachkenntnisse wurden durch das Leben in einem deutschen Wohnheim von Anfang an verfeinert und durch den Flötenunterricht im Schwarzwald und am Kaiserstuhl, bei gleichzeitigem (meist) Erhalt meines Sinnes für Humor. Ich bin es gewohnt, fristgerecht und unter Zeitdruck zu arbeiten und nach Spitzenleistungen zu streben.
Nach 30 Jahren ständiger Reisen und Auftritte bin ich jetzt dankbar für meine wunderbaren Flötenstudenten und für die Möglichkeit, sprachlich zu arbeiten und anderen zu helfen, die bestmögliche Version ihrer Arbeit zu präsentieren.
