This newly developed splitting hammer is unique in its kind. It can be used in two weight variants: as a light splitting axe and as a heavy splitting hammer. The handle is not - as is traditionally the case with axes - fastened with wedges but with screws. 4 screws provide a non-positive connection, the 5th screw goes through the handle and provides the positive connection. This new type of handle attachment ensures an absolutely secure fit of the head.

The face of a Western chisel is relatively long, usually between 100 and 120 mm. When the entire length of the mirror side is honed on a flat waterstone, it bumps and lifts at the transition to the tang. At this moment, the honing stone has contact with the iron only at the cutting edge and at the tang. This means that the objective of achieving a flat mirror surface is not realized. In practice, therefore, only the part of the face close to the cutting edge is honed. However, it cannot be avoided that the face of the mirror becomes rounded over time, since there is no defined end of the grinding surface towards the tang side. La planche d'un ciseau doit être plane afin de pouvoir réaliser des assemblages de bois précis. La plupart des menuisiers le savent. Cependant, vous avez peut-être constaté qu'il n'est pas si facile de produire ou de maintenir une planche totalement plane sur les ciseaux occidentaux.
La planche d'un ciseau occidental est relativement longue, généralement entre 100 et 120 mm. These side cutters are the size of electronic pliers except that they can be opened very wide. They are fashioned from "Marutolloy 1", a special steel produced by Kobe Steel to the specifications of KEIBA from CR-v70c chrome-vanadium steel with a somewhat higher carbon content. After forging at KEIBA the steel is subjected over a period of 14 hours to a special heat treatment regime. The result is a steel which is both tough and hard and which can readily be ground to a good cutting edge — just the material for making high-quality pliers.
