Catalan to English: Business case for the Intercontinental Christian Fraternity of People with Disabilities in Girona (Catalonia) General field: Bus/Financial Detailed field: Management
Source text - Catalan 1.1.
Translation - English 1.1. PROJECT JUSTIFICATION
1- In a globalised world, where the movement of information and people grows in an exponential manner, it is necessary to keep advancing for the equal rights of persons, independently of social condition, religious beliefs, place of birth or limitations due to matters of health or other causes.
2- The persons or groups with some type of disability have many difficulties when it comes to searching for spaces and accommodation that guarantee mobility and autonomy. To offer them a new possibility in the form of an inclusive house means to advance in the attainment of these rights still not conquered.
3- There are few sleepaway camps, retreats or holiday destinations properly adapted in Catalonia, and the few which are somehow adapted are still not for all kinds of functional diversity, nor are they found inside an urban core (we know this, partly, due to the investigation in this field from the RATIO association, which works in the persons with intellectual disability leisure field, and due to the contacts that we are keeping with numerous organisations that work in support of persons with disabilities).
The onetime rectory of Sant Feliu de Pallerols:
- by being inside an urban core, allows for enjoying the whole town: the public pool, the activities organised, its people and its establishments. The town's inhabitants are used to coexistence with persons with disabilities, who have historically stayed in the house, a relationship that becomes enriching for both parts. Sant Feliu de Pallerols Municipal Council supports this project that can end up transforming not only the house, but also the whole town, into an inclusive place for the enjoyment of free time.
- thanks to its surroundings and connection, offers a wide range of both cultural and sports or leisure activities.
4- It is difficult to find well-adapted accommodation for big groups. The house currently has 1300 m2 built, of which only 500 have been used by the association, in precarious and limited conditions, during the months of least cold. The current condition of the house, which doesn’t adjust to regulations nor meets the minimum conditions for decent stays, makes its rehabilitation indispensable in order to open it during the whole year and offer it to all kinds of collectives.
The location of the house and the town’s urbanistic regulations allow for augmenting the usable space to 1980 m2, in order to offer a stay to groups of up to 72 persons and 100% accessibility during the whole year.
5- There is high demand for an accessible house that provides a service to:
- individual persons, families or groups of friends with any members with disabilities, who want to enjoy holidays together.
- groups of disabled or old people, coming from associations, residences, special education schools, etc., that want to organise camps, retreats or respite programmes.
- organisations dedicated to persons with disabilities or working for their inclusion, that search for spaces and environments adapted to organise their own activities like meetings, conferences or sports events.
Some organisations have already expressed their interest and support:
o Fràter Catalunya, Frater España, Frater Granada, Frater Burgos, Frater Madrid
o Department for Work, Social Affairs and Families of the Government of Catalonia
o MIFAS Group and MIFAS delegation in the county of La Garrotxa
o Catforall Foundation
o Comarques Gironines Disabled People’s Association (Associació de Discapacitats de les Comarques Gironines)
o Oxalis Residence of Girona
o Ratio - Pro-People with Intellectual Disability Leisure Association (RATIO Associació)
o Sant Feliu de Pallerols Municipal Council
6- The Intercontinental Christian Fraternity of People with Disabilities (Frater) exists in Catalonia and Spain, where it engages more than 6000 people and doesn’t have a centre of reference. The house in Sant Feliu de Pallerols would not only guarantee the continuity of the Fràter Girona’s activities, but wants to become a point of reference and coexistence for all the Catalan and Spanish communities and for the whole international movement.

Experience
Years of experience: 2. Registered at ProZ.com: Apr 2022.
I'm from Arenys de Munt, in Catalonia, where I have lived almost all my life, and I'm trilingual in Catalan, English and Spanish. I'm native, schooled and educated in Catalan, also my koine, with which my love for language started. I have been exposed to Spanish from a very young age, both educationally and culturally in general, due to minoritization. I started attending English lessons in a language academy at the age of 8, as a supplement to school teaching, and studied there for 10 years. My aptitude for words and my enjoyment of literature, film and music in the three languages have complemented my educational learning.
I will graduate in MA Theatre Studies at the University of Glasgow in 2023. I've been domiciled in Glasgow (Scotland) since I started my degree there in 2019, having spent some periods of time in Scotland and England before.
I'm attracted to the craft of transferring meaning from one language to another. I have done my first professional translation, a Catalan-English translation of a business case for the Intercontinental Christian Fraternity of People with Disabilities. I am skilled in and comfortable with language, being able to work intuitively, while also being sensible and meticulous. I have comprehensive theoretical knowledge and ease of doing research. As a result of all this, I can deliver accurate, clear, culturally accommodated translations and assure an effective and careful result.
