Spanish to English: ECLA’s Developmentalism General field: Social Sciences Detailed field: Social Science, Sociology, Ethics, etc.
Source text - Spanish Another school of thought to strongly influence the Latin American social sciences and social thought was developmentalism. Also derived from neoclassical theories but with a strong dose of Keynesianism, it is associated with the rising influence of ECLA (UN Economic Commission for Latin America) in the late 1940s and throughout the 1950s under the outstanding leadership of Raúl Prebisch. Following Rostow, most developmentalist authors understood ‘dependency’ as one more stage in a ‘linear succession’ along the path to a fully developed stage of capitalism, and so placed their emphasis on industrialization, improved income distribution and the possibility of ‘autonomous’ capitalist development.

I am a native British English speaker with 22 years of translation and proofreading experience, specialising in the social sciences, law, and business. I worked for five years in Latin America and maintain close links with the continent. I have translated two books for a major international social science publisher. I hold the Chartered Institute of Linguists (UK) Diploma in Translation and am recognised as an Official Translator by the Colombian Ministry of Justice. Besides translation, I am an experienced social science researcher. I also recently managed a two year legal advice project for the Latin American community in London. I believe a good translator should be a good writer, and I have a strong track record of published writing on topics ranging from history to sport for both general and specialist audiences.
