Peninha caminhava pelas dunas da praia de Moçambique, no Rio Vermelho, como se atravessasse nuvens de pura luminosidade declamando suas “verdades. Descalço, macacão de jeans, cabelo no meio das costas, colares de contas sobre o peito. – Os ricos sonham inseridos no universo de sua riqueza, que sempre lhes traz tanta preocpação, os pobres sonham que superaram a miseria, resumindo: nesse nosso mundo, todos sonham ser aquilo que realmente são. E eu, sonho que estou aqui, caminhando sobre as areias, cercado por vocês, as meninas mais lindas do universo! Como sempre acontecia, “as garotas mais lindas do universo” nos esqueciam para segui-lo, completamente encantadas pelo som insinuante da voz e das frases que Peninha passava horas decorando, para depois soltá-las ao vento, como se fossem suas pérolas de sabe do ria. – Quem é que ele está plagiando agora? – perguntei ao Ian, queria baixinho. – Até agora ele está citando A vida é um sonho, do Calderón de la Barca, mas, daqui a pouco, ele emenda com um pouco de Chuang Tzu, saca, irmão. Numa fração de segundo, foi como se meu corpo físico ficasse preso à almofada, enquanto um outro corpo meu, todo transparente, translúcido, transcendental, sobrevoasse a sala observando do alto tudo que acontecia. Quando abri os olhos, senti como se tivesse levado um tombo, minhas costas ardiam e eu parecia mais cansado do que antes de adormecer. – O que está acontecendo, Ian? Tive um sonho tão psicodélico! – Você não sonhou, só viajou um pouquinho... Ian sorriu e continuou a cantrolar naquele inglês, como se estivesse repetindo um encantamento hipnótico. Ian retomou o violão e dedilhou a canção celta novamente. Ele sorria de soslaio. Parecia satisfeito. – Ah, mas eu também quero ir para a cozinha... é sempre o lugar mais aconchegante da casa… Agora era a Mara, olhos verdes, pele queimada do sol, sorriso atrevido. Ela se levantou, arrumou o vestido e passou as mãos nas minhas costas. Continuei a caminhar em direção à pia, meio ator doado, a bandeja nas mãos trêmulas, emocionado e tímido, nada daquilo nunca tinha me acontecido antes – Débora, Mara, eu queria adivinhar o signo de vocês... – Ah, Peninha, vamos deixar esse negócio de horóscopo para mais tarde, agora eu quero preparar uma sobremesa especial. Assim disse Janete. Cabelo liso, curtinho, jeans bem justo, camiseta branca, já abrindo a geladeira. – Ian, o que está acontecendo? – perguntou Peninha, irritado. Ian não respondeu e começou a cantar. O toque firme nas cordas do violão, a voz de uma melancolia forte e, ao mesmo tempo, assustadora, espalharam-se pela casa inteira criando uma atmosfera fantasmagórica. E eu, bem, até hoje não entendo como foi que aconteceu. Eu, sempre o mais bobo e desajeitado, eu, o Duda, aquele que vivia ficando para trás, o cara mais ignorado da praia, separei duas panelas largas, uma frigideira e comecei a fazer uma percussão maluca, usando até o barulho da água na pia cheia de louça suja. Ian acelerou o ritmo da canção, e eu, Duda, o sujeito mais quadrado de todos os tempos, percebia que minhas mãos produziam um som totalmente diferente de tudo que eu já ouvir antes. Débora, Mara e Janete começaram a marcar o ritmo batendo palmas, e até mesmo Nair, a namorada preferida do Peninha, deixou-o de lado e saiu dançando pela cozinha, rindo de tanta felicidade. Ian emendava uma canção na outra, e eu ouvia a melodia de cada objeto ressoando dentro de mim. Foi como se, repentinamente, eu tivesse descoberto todos os sons que se ocultam nos lugares mais inesperados e minhas mãos soubessem exatamente como extraí-los. E, à medida que eu batia com uma colher de pau na panela de macarrão, assoprava as garrafas gerando estranhos sons, minha alma era tomada de uma energia louca, como se eu fosse esquecendo que meu nome era Eduardo Nascimento Souza, que eu tinha nascido numa maternidade normal, como qualquer outra criança normal, porque naquela noite eu entrei em transe, o corpo vibrando com a energia de alguma criatura estratosférica, uma musa, uma música, uma sabedoria instintiva, que me deixava num estado de êxtase profundo. Enfiei a cabeça debaixo da torneira, ainda rindo muito, e, quando a levantei, meu rosto foi preso pelas mãos de Nair, que me deu um beijo na boca. Bem ali. Bem naquela hora. Bem na frente do Peninha. Que simplesmente se levantou e foi embora batendo a porta com força. Débora, Mara e Janete dançavam, como se também tivessem incorporado alguma energia, estrangeira a tudo que já tínhamos encontrado na vida. Acho que a festa teria se prolongado até o amanhecer, mas, inesperadamente, a luz voltou, a porta se abriu e todas as velas se apagaram. – Uau!!!! A gente também quer dançar!!! Era um bando de jovens vindo da praia. Eles riam muito, roupas molhadas do mar, sandálias nas mãos. Ian interrompeu o som para cumprimentá-los. Lembro de cada detalhe daquela cena e, até hoje, tanto tempo depois, tenho a impressão de ter memorizado cada gesto, como se minha memória tivesse gravado o caminhar, os olhares, os sorrisos, tudo, em câmera lenta. Ian colocou o violão sobre a mesa, cuidadoso. Passou as mãos nas calças coloridas, como se quisesse limpá-las, e as estendeu para o primeiro que entrava. O grupo era formado de umas vinte pessoas, algumas meninas correram até o banheiro, outras foram diretamente para a cozinha, pedindo um copo de água, outros voaram até a mesa e começaram a comer, sem a menor cerimônia, como sempre acontecia naqueles tempos de paz, amor e vida comunitária. Senti uma brisa diferente. Perfumada. Caminhei até a porta para fechá-la. Novamente aquele arrepio na espinha. O toque de uma mão na minha nuca. A sensação forte de uma presença invisível. Virei a maçaneta e fiquei paralisado. Do fundo da noite, uma voz diferente, de uma doçura inexplicável, pediu assim: – Ei, espere, eu também quero entrar. Ian e eu ficamos mudos, boquiabertos, embasbacados, diante da aparição. Ela era ruiva, miúda, os cabelos crespos espalhando-se pelas costas, saia florida esvoaçante, camiseta cor-de-rosa, banda na na testa, sorriso inocente, que desmentia o impacto contundente dos olhos largos, lúcidos. – Eu sou Lenora – ela anun ciou. – Posso entrar? Ian estendeu a mão para levá-la até a sala. Ela se movia em cadência melodiosa. Eu observava os movimentos dela e era como se aquele corpo produzisse sons, como se uma canção se escondesse entre os fios de cabelos cor de cobre. Corri até a cozinha e separei meus novos “instrumentos”, as panelas e as colheres de pau. Pensei em pedir a Ian para que apanhasse o violão, mas nem foi preciso, ele já tinha o instrumento em mãos. Lenora sentou-se num banquinho, ao lado dele, e assim que Ian tocou as cordas, ela sorriu, balançou o corpo e tive a impressão de que ambos tinham sido absorvidos por uma dimensão única e intransferível. – Lenora é o nome de meu poema preferido – disse ele. – Eu criei uma melodia especial para acompanhá-lo. Mas nunca toquei essa canção para ninguém. Foi como se ela fosse meu mantra secreto. Mas agora é diferente. Você chegou. – Talvez a canção seja minha – disse ela rindo –, tal vez eu tenha vindo buscá-la. Não é engraçado que tudo isso tenha acon tecido hoje? Na vira dado ano? Ian ajeitou-se para começar, eu aguardava atento o sinal para que o acompanhasse, quando a porta se abriu novamente, com força. – Vocês por acaso pensaram que estavam livres de mim? Era o Peninha. Na certa tinha dirigido um tempo na estrada, para depois voltar e tentar recuperar o prestígio de sempre. Ele olhou ao redor, nitidamente surpreso com os novos convidados, depois reparou em Ian, sentado ao lado de Lenora. Os dois agora estavam entretidos numa conversa animada: – Eu conheço esse poema. Eu também adoro o Edgard Allan Poe – disse a garota. – Veja, meus pais têm a obra completa e me chamaram de Lenora por causa do poema, olha só que coincidência... Ian era não só meu melhor amigo, como também o mais antigo. Éramos vizinhos em São Paulo. Como Ian tinha perdido a mãe muito cedo, acabou frequentando minha casa o tempo todo. Seu pai, Mr. Yeats, sempre se dizia muito grato à minha mãe pela atenção que ela dispensava ao filho. O pai de Ian era um executivo e viajava muito. Minha família é italiana, a casa vive cheia de gente de gerações muito diferentes. Na mesa, sempre há algo para comer e, na hora das refeições, era quase uma festa ou uma luta, dependendo do dia. Todos falando ao mesmo tempo, todos comentando a vida de todos, brigas, discussões e muito carinho. Ian estava sempre por perto, mas nunca arriscava emitir uma opinião ou defender o lado de um parente em especial. Ele ria de soslaio. E de vez em quando simplesmente sumia. Minha mãe, várias vezes, ficava nervosa com essas ausências. Ela levava muito a sério o voto de confiança que lhe fora dado por Mr. Yeats. Mas eu sabia o quanto Ian precisava de silêncio e solidão. De minha parte, eu me interessava bastante pela casa de Ian. Era um cenário totalmente diferente de tudo que eu conhecia. As poltronas largas, confortáveis, a cadeira de leitura, as estantes repletas de livros muito antigos, encadernados em couro, letras douradas. Dois cãezinhos da raça cocker spaniel mantinham guarda no quarto dele, onde, além dos livros, havia coleções de miniaturas de castelos e soldadinhos de chumbo, herdados de seu pai. Para mim, a casa de Ian era um refúgio da turbulência, que reinava em minha família. Para meu grande amigo, minha família tal vez representasse um mundo que ele gostava de frequentar, um mundo que ele nunca teria para si, irlandês órfão, filho único de um pai ausente. Assim, foi na casa de Ian que comecei a me interessar por poesia, a apreciar a quietude, e foi em minha casa que Ian aprendeu a gostar do convívio com pessoas muito diferentes de tudo o que ele conhecia. Nós não frequentamos a mesma escola. Ian estudava numa escola inglesa, e eu, numa italiana. Mas, logo que terminava a lição de casa, Ian tocava a campainha e minha mãe o recebia sempre de braços abertos. Todas essas imagens de nossa infância atravessaram minha mente naquela noite derradeira do ano de 1969. Ian fitava Lenora com uma ternura intensa, que nunca fazia parte de seu olhar. Ela parecia ter consciência da atração que exercia. Ele dedilhava o violão, e ela cantarolava, tentando acompanhar a melodia do poema que lhe dera o nome. Quando Ian deu um acorde mais forte para começar a cantar, Peninha atravessou a sala, ajoelhou-se diante da garota, tomou a mão dela, deu-lhe um beijo e berrou: – Finalmente encontrei minha alma gêmea! Se eu estivesse no lugar de Ian, tal vez tivesse quebrado o violão na cabeça do Peninha. Naquela noite, eu já não aguentava mais o estilo sedutor compulsivo que ele exibia sempre que uma garota entrava em cena. Ian apenas baixou os olhos e tocou com força o violão. Lenora retirou a mão de Peninha e aproximou-se de Ian. Quando ele começou a cantar, foi a vez dos olhos dela emitirem uma sua vida de incomum nas pessoas de alma tão ferida. Sim, porque agora eu consigo perceber que o encanto de Lenora era próprio das pessoas que aliam uma profunda vulnerabilidade a uma capacidade de sobrevivência imbatível. Bem, naquela primeira noite ao lado dela, tantas coisas haviam acontecido comigo que essa percepção era apenas uma mera intuição. Lembro nitidamente das suas vozes em dueto. Lenora ouviu a melodia atentamente e começou a cantar a partir da segunda estrofe. E foi como se ambos pertencêssem a uma outra época, como se todos nós fôssemos transportados a um passa do distante, mítico, a uma outra vida. Como encontrar palavras para descrever o poder encantatório, hipnótico, o domínio que a música pode exercer sobre alguém? Até agora, permanece a sensação frustrante de que nada que eu possa dizer ou escrever jamais será capaz de descrever todos os lugares imaginários, todos os pontos de meu corpo, todos os caminhos de meu espírito, conduzidos por aquelas vozes no primeiro amanhecer do ano de 1970... Dunas A lembrança dos dias que seguiram ao encon tro com Le nora ainda con ser vam uma qua li da de diá fa na, como se, duran te aquele tempo, nós três, Ian, ela e eu, estivéssemos envoltos em algum tipo de fascinação. Tocávamos todas as tardes e noites. A essa altura, eu já aprendera a expandir meu dom musical, que se manifestara no Ano-novo. Além da percussão, percebi que me dava bem tocando violão acústico e baixo. Eu realmente passara a dominar esses instrumentos da noite para o dia. Minha satisfação era tanta que eu preferia evitar pensar em como adquirira esses talentos. Se eu realmente tivesse feito algum pacto com uma entidade sobrentural, bem, alguém no além estava me protegendo... Peninha nos assistia sempre e, certa tarde, na hora do intervalo, ele disse algo que me marcou: – Há muitos tipos de amor entre nós quatro – ele declarou com a certeza habitual. – Como assim, Peninha? – perguntei. – Até que enfim você resolveu me ouvir, Duda! Será que você finalmente percebeu a grande sabedoria de minhas palavras? Lenora e Ian riram ao mesmo tempo. Pareciam profundamente apaixonados. Peninha esperou para que todos nos aproximássemos e começou a pontificar, como tanto gostava de fazer naqueles tempos: – Veja, temos aqui o amor clássico, entre dois jovens que acabam de se encontrar e sentem um afeto forte. Mas temos também o afeto entre amigos ou irmãos, depois, o meu amor por Lenora, que é como a paixão que se tem por uma musa inatingível. É... Ian, eu sei que ela te escolheu, e não a mim, fique tranquilo. Ian trocou um beijo com Lenora, como se quisesse marcar que ela o havia realmente escolhido, e Peninha continuou: – Mas temos, sobretudo, o amor à arte. A paixão pela música. Este é o grande elo: a criação conjunta! – Ei, Peninha, que criação conjunta é essa? Você está com uma música na cabeça, por acaso? – Eu não digo uma música, não sou compositor, mas acho que minha concepção musical influencia, subliminarmente, a criação de vocês. Descobri também o nome pra nossa banda. – Que banda, bicho? A gente só toca de brincadeira. – Brincadeira coisa nenhuma! Eu vou virar empresário de vocês e teremos sucesso mundial, eu garanto! Ian deu um acorde no violão e Lenora caiu na gargalhada. – Diga, sábio mestre Peninha, qual será o nome de nossa banda, então? – Triaprima! – Que palavra linda... – disse Lenora –, mas tem algum significado? Onde foi que você a encontrou? Ou é só uma invenção da sua cabeça? – Triaprima é um termo da antiga ciência da alquimia. Significa o momento em que forças espirituais criam um estado de intensa criatividade. A união dos três grandes elementos mágicos: a arte, o amor e a palavra. – Que lindo, Peninha! Adorei! – exclamou Lenora entusiasmada. – E, dentro de nossa tríade, você certamente representará o amor, Ian tem o dom da músi ca, e Duda, nosso poeta e percussionista, é detentor do dom da palavra... Ian ficou sério, como se não estivesse gostando do entusiasmo de Lenora com o nome da banda, ou melhor, com a conversa de Peninha, dedilhou o violão com força, mas, antes que ele dissesse algo, Peninha, na certa percebe do ciúme do amigo, decidiu provocá-lo ainda mais: – Esperem, preciso explicar melhor minha concepção de vida: eu nasci sob o signo de Touro. Sou, por tanto, um filho de Vênus. Na astrologia, Vênus rege a quinta casa, onde nasce a criatividade e o amor. Não há criação sem paixão. Lenora riu muito depois das últimas palavras de Peninha. Fiquei curioso. – E aí, minha querida musa, você concorda com essa hipótese maluca? – Eu acredito que a realidade se impõe enquanto a ilusão preciso de proteção... Aplaudimos a frase dela, mas, como muitas vezes acontecia naquele tempo, continuamos a conversar entre nós, os homens, à bela musa só era permitido dizer uma linda frase de vez em quando. Hoje em dia, quando me recordo daquelas tardes, percebo que Lenora não se importava com nossa vaidade e narcisismo exacerbado, pelo contrário. Creio que ela apreciava o lugar daquela que observa, percebe e nada diz. Essa sensação fica mais forte quando penso no dia em que compus minha primeira canção, intitulada “Dunas”. Estávamos todos nas dunas, justamente, ao entardecer. Ian tocava melodias breves, improvisando, e Lenora o acompanhava cantarolando. Repentinamente, foi como se eu ouvisse o canto do mar, o ruído da metamorfo e constante das dunas em movimento e a melodia melancólia do sol que se punha. As palavras saíam de mim e encaixavam-se no toque de Ian. – Que versos mais lindos! – exclamou Lenora. – Vou repeti los em canto. Quando ouvi Lenora cantar minhas palavras, tive a dolorosa certeza de que nunca mais voltaria a viver uma emoção tão doce. Lembrei da teoria de Peninha, toda aquela história do amor que nasce da criação conjunta. Fitei os olhos escuros de Lenora e percebi que ficara irremediavelmente apaixonado, senti também como se uma faca tivesse me ferido do lado esquerdo. Desviei o olhar a tempo de perceber a expressão de dor e ódio que o ciúme profundo de Ian emprestava ao rosto dele... Fama Grande mestre Bowie!!! Só você para dizer abertamente: “A fama é lugar do vazio”... Hoje, tantos anos depois do sucesso estrondoso de nossa banda, Triaprima, quando entro num restau rante e ainda preciso escolher a mesa mais distante para nunca correr o risco de ser reconhecido, penso nas palavras certeiras de David Bowie: fama, fama e fama. O que você ganha com o fim de seu futuro? A chama que te deixa insano? O contraste do êxtase no palco e o descoforto emocional do isolamento dos quartos de hotéis, o assédio constante dos vampiros de energia, toda aquela gente desconhecida que precisava nos tocar, nos aprisionar, fosse qual fosse o grilhão: a droga, o sexo, a fuga da solidão... Quando entrei em reclusão, após nosso último show, o espetáculo em Camboriú, que marcava nossa volta a Santa Catarina, onde a banda fora originalmente criada, já estava tão rico que poderia viver de renda pelo resto da vida. Nunca mais voltei a compor ou exercer qualquer tipo de profissão. Passei a viver só, sempre disfarçado, vagando pelas bibliotecas das cidades e pelas praias do mundo, como se o mar de histórias, contido nos livros, e o próprio mar fossem os únicos espaços capazes de acolher uma alma perdida em constante busca de sentido para um passado penoso demais para ter qualquer significado. Mesmo assim, eu insisto em compreender tudo o que nos aconteceu. É por isso que decidi escrever. Não para publicar uma biografia autorizada e ganhar ainda mais dinheiro com meu passado. Quero escrever essa história, separar as páginas e, simplesmente, queimá-las numa fogueira, à noite, nas dunas, tendo o mar como única testemunha. O mesmo mar que atraiu e roubou de mim as duas pessoas que mais amei. Fantasma SÃO PAULO – ANO DE 2006 – Qual foi a mais estranha, horrível e desastrosa de todas as decisões que você já tomou na vida? Lenora riu da pergunta feita pela melhor amiga, naquela tarde de sábado, tirada para fazer nada além devisitar as lojinhas e brechós da praça Benedito Calixto. Fazia sol, mas havia brisa, o inverno paulista se preparando para invadir as ruas. Na outra esqui na, da rua Teodoro Sampaio, numa loja de instrumentos musicais, uma banda tocava um cover de Lenora, a antiga canção da banda Triaprima. – Mari, você sabia que minha mãe me batizou de Lenora por causa da música da Triaprima? – Jura? – Então você já viu? – O diário de Duda? – É isso mesmo, os capítulos que estão aparecendo no site oficial da banda. De onde será que eles vieram? Será que o autor é mesmo o Duda? Mas ninguém nunca mais conseguiu descobrir onde ele estava? Será que é tipo fantasma do Elvis? Ou do Jim Morrison? Será que o cara não morreu, só se escondeu, com nova identidade? Tem muita gente que acredita nisso... – Alguém me disse que os textos estão sendo deixados em garrafas enterradas perto da praia de Camboriú, em Santa Catarina, já pensou? – Mas não foi essa a mesma praia onde aconteceu a tragédia? – Não tenho certeza... – respondeu Lenora, evitando o olhar da amiga. – Já sei, você detesta assunto de mar... Lenora caminhou até o caixa para pagar a blusa que escolhera. – Tenho sim... – Que coisa! E eu adoro o mar, quero ir para a Bahia nas férias de julho – disse Mari, como se quisesse ser superior à amiga. – Eu queria ser como você... – confessou Lenora, ignorando a provocação. – E eu como você! Bem que eu queria ter esse cabelo loirinho e ondulado, seus olhos verdes, sua magreza, sua inteligência... – Tá louca, Mari? Você é muito mais bonita do que eu! – Mas você não queria ser como eu. – Ah, eu não penso nessas coisas... – Você pensa no quê? Você ainda sonha com o fantasma irlandês? – Ainda... – E como ele é? – Parece o Ian, da Triaprima, só que é mais lindo... – Por que será que você sonha assim? Você já contou para sua mãe? As duas sentaram-se no banco da pracinha e Lenora continuou a falar: – Já contei sim. Minha mãe disse que se arrepende de ter dado o nome de uma canção para mim. Mas é que “Lenora” era a músi ca que tocava na festa em que ela conheceu meu pai. Era tipo a música dos dois... – “Lenora” foi a música preferida de muita gente... – Quando eu comecei a ter pesadelos, a primeira vez em que senti medo do mar, ela achou estranho... – E daí? – Daí que ela resolveu pesquisar mais a respeto do meu nome, e da origem da canção... – Continue... – Minha mãe contou que existem várias histórias sobre o Ian. A oficial é que ele era filho de um executivo irlandês, viúvo, que veio morar no Brasil. Conheceu Lenora em Floripa. Eles ficaram apaixonados, Ian compôs a canção baseada num poema do Edgard Allan Poe. Era tipo uma coincidência. Lenora era o poema preferido do Ian. – E daí? – Duda, Lenora e Ian criaram a Triaprima. Mas a ideia de organizar a banda veio do empresário deles, o Peninha. Também foi ele quem inventou o nome, baseado em termos da alquimia medieval. – Essa parte do sucesso a gente já conhece, eu adoro todas as outras músicas também... Mas, agora, me conte a história não oficial que a sua mãe descobriu... – Uma vez nós fomos para a Barra do Saí. Eu só tinha seis anos. Nossa casa dava para a praia. Fazia calor, as portas estavam abertas para arejar. – E você fez o quê? – De madrugada, minha mãe sentiu sede e levantou para beber um copo d’água. Reparou que a porta do meu quarto estava aberta. Correu para me ver. A cama estava vazia. Correu até a praia, supernervosa. Era escuro, ela não conseguia ver nada... – E daí, anda, conta logo... – E daí que ela me encontrou caminhando na beira da praia, cantarolando a “Lenora”, tipo uma sonâmbula. Quando minha mãe perguntou o que eu estava fazendo ali, respondi em inglês. – Não acredito... e você estava em alguma escolinha de língua, por acaso? – Estava nada. Eu não me lembro de nada. Quem conta essa história é minha mãe. – E o que mais ela contou? – Ela disse que eu estava com uma expressão completamente diferente no rosto. Que eu parecia uma velhinha. Ela morreu de medo de mim, olha só que estranho. Depois eu desmaiei. Minha mãe me carregou de volta para casa e me pôs na cama. Quando acordei, estava totalmente normal. Não lembrava de nada. Foi daí que minha mãe saiu pesquisando mais sobre o meu nome. – E descobriu... – Descobriu que existe uma espécie de tradição, de magia, na região da Irlanda onde nasceu o Ian. Essa tradição tem a ver com a música e a poesia. O poder da voz encantada. Parece que a avó de Ian era mestra na arte de encantar por meio do canto. Olha só o que eu percebi agorinha: a palavra encanto contém a palavra canto, não é mesmo? – É tipo um hipnotismo pela música? – Mais ou menos. Minha mãe disse que essa tradição é muito forte, capaz de invocar entidades, e que esses poderes podem provocar o bem ou o mal, depende de quem os usa e de como os usa. – Bem, se a gente pensa em tudo o que aconteceu com a banda, não dá pra ficar achando que o tal do Ian era muito bonzinho, né?... – Pois é... é isso o que preocupa minha mãe. – Por causa dos seus sonhos? I dream about being here, walking on the sand, surrounded by you girls, the most beautiful girls in the world!” Like they always said, “the most beautiful girls in the universe” forgot us as they followed Peninha completely mesmerized by the alluring sound of his voice and lines that he spent hours memorizing and then tossing them into the wind as if they were pearls of wisdom. “Who is he lying to now?” I asked Ian who was laughing quietly. “Until now, he has been quoting, “Life is a dream”, from Calderón de la Barca, but in a little bit, he will switch it up with a little bit of Chuang Tzu. You get it, dude?” Now Peninha was getting his feet wet in the ocean underneath the starry sky and intense moonlight. He was surrounded by girls who laughed, sighed, and imitated his gestures. “One day” the master said, “I dreamt I was a butterfly and when I woke up, I was lifted up by the feeling of weightlessness. “I asked myself, “Did I really wake up or am I a butterfly dreaming I am a human?” Dude, said and done! I knew he was going to use the deadly formula. Calderón is Taoism. It never fails. In a little bit, those four girls will be fighting over him. “What’s the next step?” I said to Ian. “Ours? “ “What do you mean?” “The girls have already left us. Are we going to stay here eating garbage or can we go somewhere else? “Will they come back to eat? “You know when Peninha makes something good, no one can match it.” “There won’t be any leftovers?” “Never any leftovers, right?” Ian laughed, inhaled and gestured for me to come over. I also laughed and crossed over the dunes, afterwards to the small forest, making my way to the bridge towards the house where we stayed. On the table, there was turkey, salad, rice, potatoes, sodas and wine. Everyone was waiting for the party that I figured was never going to happen. In the corner of the room, next to the pillows scattered all over the floor, there was Peninha’s guitar. “Hey, man, are we going to eat?” “And our party? Imagine! Peninha will get together with all the girls. I am guessing he will take his Jeep and bring them into town for any excuse he can think of. Ian laughed again. He laid down in the hammock and asked me to play one of Jimmy’s records. “Man, with all due respect, I am done listening now to Hendrix. Do you want to pick another one?” I asked him. Ian reached his hand into the box of records but the lights went out just like before in the past. There were just a few homes in the region of Rio Vermelho and the electricity outages were common. “Duda, light the candles that we put on the table as decorations.” I listened. Ian picked up the guitar and started to thumb a medieval song. I closed my eyes sensing the aroma of the candles, the ocean breeze, and the weariness of the day as the fierce waves beat against the beach. “Oh my god, this music is powerful. You should play it for the girls. Who knows maybe they will stop listening to Peninha’s small talk and come over to our side.” “This music isn’t for everybody. It was composed to call upon other worldly beings. It belongs to a magic ritual.” “How so? “ “It’s a ritual for evoking sea creatures from Ireland.” “Creatures like the mermaid type? I am digging this.” “No, Duda, powerful creatures.” “You believe in these things?” “They weren’t astronaut gods? I believe that anything is possible. Open your mind, man!” “But our sea is tropical. We are very far from Ireland and no creature will ever appear. “It really won’t.” “Just as well, man. I already was beginning to get scared. “They can hear us.” “Be quiet, man. You gave me goosebumps.” Ian let out a belly laugh, different from his normal laugh. We heard noises from the fireworks. “Is it midnight?” “Right on the dot. “ I got up. I reached my hand out to Ian. He stopped playing to greet me. “Happy New Year!” ` “I hope 1970 brings you lots of success!” “I’m sure this year will change our lives.” “Why?” “Because the creatures hear us.” “Ian, stop that, man.” Have you been drinking?” Every year we experience a pivotal moment in our lives. “Ian, are you becoming like Peninha, perhaps? Stop it, man!” “Duda, you never stopped to think why people make New Year’s Eve resolutions?” “I know. These aren’t traditions that are passed on from one person to another and we even so much forget how it started. That’s it. In reality, the New Year is celebrated on this night because it has enormous supernatural powers. Everything that you ask for most likely will happen.” “How did you know this?” “Pay attention.” Ian started to play the same, strange melody and started to sing in an archaic English that I didn’t understand very well. He repeated a kind of phrase that hypnotized me and I began to feel sleepy. I leaned back on the pillows and closed my eyes for a second. It was long enough to feel as if I were in a state of delirium. In a fraction of a second, it was as if my physical body became a prisoner to the pillow while my other body in its entire transcendental, translucent and transparent state flew above the room observing from high above what was happening. When I opened my eyes, I felt like I had fallen, my back was burning and I was exhausted. “What’s happening, Ian? I had a psychedelic dream!” “You didn’t dream. You just traveled a short distance.” Ian smiled and kept humming in that archaic English as if he were repeating a hypnotizing spell. Again, my body felt heavy, and he kept insisting: “This night is powerful. The next decade will change the world. After the 70s, humanity will not think the same way that they think now. I see this clearly now.” “Ian, if I were you, stay away from that guitar. You are talking nonsense.” “For example, look at the city of Florianópolis. What does Floripa have?” “Until now, tourists didn’t visit and secret places that possessed hidden strengths existed like the dunes. “Ian, I don’t understand you.” “I will repeat myself.” “If this conversation were to come from Peninha’s mouth, I can see why you don’t understand but you were always the smartest in the class. I am not getting anything.” “In the future, Floripa will be a very busy place for the younger generation and people will leave their cities to come and live here close to the beaches and sand dunes.” “Where did you get this information?” “I envisioned it.” “What vision, man, are you hallucinating?” “This was my wish. I asked for a piece of the future. Afterwards, I had a vision. The sea creatures never failed me.” “Are you telling me you already have gotten involved with this stuff?” “It’s logical. It’s in the blood. Where have we ever seen an Irish person who hasn’t heard of an elf, banshee, mermaid, gnome, pixie, etc? My grandmother always sang in a certain way and at the end of every year she put me on her lap and asked me to tell her my most far-reaching, secret wishes because in a flash, they would come true.” I breathed a sigh of relief. For sure that was a familiar strategy to force a child to always tell the truth and never hide something from an adult. If Ian was imitating his grandmother, it wouldn’t be so bad. Unless his Irish grandmother were much different than an Italian grandmother like mine. “Well, make your wish.” Ah, what garbage.” “No, it’s not!” Ian came back to touch my body and my body jumped up. Once more I had the feeling I was floating. “I want fame, lots of women, and lots of money.” I opened my eyes when I finished saying that. I never understood why I said those words. Perhaps, it was my non-stop jealousy of Peninha’s success or my desire to have four women following me all over the beach. I don’t know. I know that I thought I could say a wish like that out loud and forget about it the next day. Ian looked at me and smiled big. “I knew that you would want something like that.” “You?” “Me?” “What do you want the most in this world?” “Don’t tell me that you don’t care about fame, women, and money.” I don’t care, no. By the way, I don’t care at all. I just want peace and the greatest love in the world. Although, sometimes I think love doesn’t bring peace but torture instead.” “Passion brings torture and love brings peace.” “Maybe there’s a difference between one another? I am sure there is!” “What do you prefer?” “Love or passion? I want everything! I want forgiveness! I want to forget my name and everything I have. I want to find a person who will make me die.” “Ian, man, you are crazy. Why?” “Because that’s when I’ll get to play the most powerful music in the universe.” I was going to tell Ian to reject this crazy wish. At the same time, I was thinking that everything was just a stupid game. At the end of the year at midnight, I felt something different was taking place in that moment. Was it a chill moving up my spine? A feeling of flying? A feeling of an invisible being next to me? I was going to ask Ian to play something more pleasant. An inspiring song with a melody that would lighten the heavy air that surrounded us. With the door wide open, Peninha came in surrounded by his four girlfriends “Hey guys! You guys already ate the whole supper or is there a little left for us too?” Lenore Peninha was accustomed to great success. When he entered the room, he went straight to the dining room table. He was laughing and talking a lot: “Ian, were you playing?” Peninha would always ask me something and then keep talking, giving nobody a chance to get a word in edgewise especially when “nobody” meant Ian or me. “Music, the domain of Neptune, God of altered states, out of body experiences, starship journeys and guardian of the keys that unlock our understanding. Is anyone here a Pisces?” Ian and I looked at each other. Peninha, was now going to be the life of the party. Whenever the man started to talk about astrology, he was unmatched. It was better for me to go to the kitchen and wash some dishes because I knew all that talk backwards and forwards. I got up from the couch, somewhat tired. “Duda, where are you going?” Débora was a pretty blonde with bangs, a face like Brigitte Bardot. When she left Peninha’s side to help me gather the dishes, she asked me this question. “Do you know I love water? I can help you tidy up if you want.” Peninha raised his eyebrows out of curiosity. What’s the deal? Now that he planned on getting deep into astrology to get the dirt on girls? Ian took up the guitar again and strummed a new Celtic song. He smiled uncontrollably. He looked pleased. “Ah, but I also want to go to the kitchen. It’s always the coziest place in the house.” Now there was Mara with her green eyes, sunburnt skin, and an outrageous smile. She got up, arranged her outfit and patted her hands on my back. I kept walking towards the sink with the tray in my trembling hands. I felt excited and shy. Nothing like that had ever happened to me. “Débora and Mara, I would like to share with you guys what your future holds.” “Ah, Peninha, let’s leave this horoscope stuff for later. Now, I want to prepare a special dessert,” Janeta said deliberately. Janeta already opened the freezer and I saw her straight, short hair, tight fitting jeans and white t-shirt. “Ian, what’s going on?” Peninha asked very annoyed. Ian didn’t answer and started to sing. The firm stroke of the guitar’s chords combined with his strong, melancholic voice stirred up a frightful, ghostly atmosphere throughout the house. Well, I, until now, didn’t understand what was going on. I was always the clumsiest and stupidest. I, Duda, the one who always fell behind and the most ignorant guy from the beach. With a couple of pots and the freezer, I started a crazy drumming session with the noise from the sink filled with dirty dishes. Ian sped up the song’s rhythm and I, Duda, the most old-fashioned and logical guy, realized my hands were producing a totally different sound than everything I had heard before. Débora, Mara and Janeta started grooving to the beat clapping their hands together. Even Nair, Peninha’s favorite girlfriend, ditched him to go dancing in the kitchen smiling from ear to ear. Ian switched to another song and I heard each string’s melody echoing within me. Suddenly, it was as if I had discovered all the sounds that had hidden in the most unlikely places and my hands discovered exactly how to get them. As I was banging a wooden stick against a pot of macaroni, bottles were also whistling odd sounds. At the same time, a strange energy invaded my soul as if I had forgotten my name was Eduardo Nascimento Souza and I had a normal childhood. That night I went into a trance as my body vibrated with an energy of some powerful creature. It was like a muse, a song, an instinctive wisdom, that left me in a profound state of ecstasy. I put my head underneath the sink, laughing still, and when I lifted it, my face felt heavy from when Nair grabbed me and kissed me on the lips. Right there, right at the time she was in front of Peninha’s face. She just got up, and left slamming the door. Débora, Mara and Janeta were dancing as if they already invented some new energy we already had found in life. I think the party would have lasted until the morning but unfortunately, the lights came back on, the door opened, and all the candles went out. “Wow!!! We want to dance too!!!” A group of guys were coming from the beach. They were laughing a lot with their soaked clothes and sandals in their hands. Ian stopped rocking out to greet them. After all that time, I remember every detail of that night up until today. I feel like I had memorized every gesture as if my memory had remembered their walk, their looks, their smiles, everything in slow motion. Ian put his guitar on the table ever so gently. He touched his colored pants as if he wanted to spot check them and give them to the first person that came through the door. There was a group of about 20 people. Some girls scurried to the bathroom directly towards the kitchen to ask for a cup of water, and others swarmed over to the table to eat without saying grace like people did back in the days of communal gatherings, love, and peace. I felt a strange, scented breeze. I walked towards the door to close it. Again, that chill up my spine. The touch of a hand on the back of my neck. That strange feeling of an invisible being. I turned the knob and I became paralyzed. During the darkest hours of the night, a different voice, an inexplicable gentleness, asked me like this: “Hey, wait up, I want to come too.” Ian and I kept silent, with our mouths wide-open and dumbfounded, in front of this ghost. She had red, frizzy hair down to her back, and wore a flowy, floral skirt with a pink-colored shirt and a headband around her forehead. Her childish smile eased the intimidating presence of her wide, lucid eyes. “I’m Lenore,” she said. “Can I come in?” Ian reached his hand out to take her to the living room. She swayed to the rhythm of a melody. I saw her move and it was as if her body sounded like a song lying between strands of copper-colored hair. I ran to the kitchen and separated my new instruments, the pots from the wooden spoons. I thought about asking Ian to take out his guitar but he already had it in his hands. Lenore sat on a stool next to him and right away Ian started to strike up a jam. She smiled as she swayed her body and I could tell they both had been sucked into some otherworldly and inescapable dimension. “Lenore is the name of my favorite poem,” he said. “I created a special melody to go with it. I haven’t played this song for anyone. It’s like my secret mantra but now it’s different. You came.” “Maybe the song is mine,” she said laughing. “Perhaps I came to get it. Isn’t it funny that all this happened today? On the eve of the New Year?” Ian got ready to start playing and I waited attentively for the signal to go when the door slammed open again. “Did you guys actually think you could get rid of me?” It was Peninha. Probably he had driven on the road for a while and later came back and tried to take back his supreme social status. He looked around, clearly surprised with the new guests, when later he noticed Ian next to Lenore. Now, the two were engaged in an eye-catching conversation. “I know this poem. I also love Edgard Allan Poe, “she said. “Check this out. My parents have his complete work and named me after this poem. What are the chances!” Ian, not only was my best friend but also my oldest. We were close neighbors in São Paulo. Since Ian lost his mother at an early age, he ended up coming over to my house every day. His father, Mr. Yeats, was always very grateful to my mother for all the attention she gave to her son. Ian’s father was a businessman and traveled a lot. My family is Italian. The house is full of different generations. On the table, there was always something to eat. At meal time, almost always there was a party or a fight depending on the day. Everyone talked at the same time or commented on each other’s life which meant fights, discussions and a lot of affection. Ian always was close but he never would give his opinion or take the side of one parent over another. He laughed a lot. Once in a while he simply disappeared. Many times, my mother got nervous whenever he was gone. She took Mr. Yeats very seriously when he said there was nothing to worry about. But I know how much Ian needed silence and alone time. For me, I was really interested in Ian’s house. It had a totally different vibe than what I used to. The huge, cozy armchairs, the reading chair, the shelves full of old books, bounded in leather and written in gold. Two puppies, Cocker Spaniel breed, guarded his room where besides his books, there were collections of miniature castles and iron soldiers he inherited from his father. For me, the house was an escape from the madness that was always present at home. Perhaps for my best friend, my family was like a world he enjoyed going to, a world that he never had for himself as an Irish orphan and an only child of an absent father. So, it was in Ian’s house where I started to become interested in poetry and to appreciate silence. In my house, Ian learned to enjoy hanging out with people who were very different from anyone he knew. We didn’t go to the same school. Ian studied at an English school, and I studied at an Italian one. However, as soon as I finished my homework, Ian rang the doorbell, and my mother always welcomed him with open arms. All these images from our childhood crossed my mind on that final night in 1969. Ian stared intensely at Lenore with a tenderness that never showed up in his eyes before. She was very aware of his feelings of attraction. He strummed his guitar, and he hummed while trying to match the melody of the poem he had named after her. When Ian stroked his chords a little louder to start the song, Peninha crossed the room to face her. He took her hand, gave her a kiss, and shouted: “Finally, I found my soulmate!” If I were in Ian’s position, I might have hit my guitar over Peninha’s head. That night I already couldn’t handle anymore, but he always showed off his relentless, seductive behavior whenever a girl walked in. Ian just lowered his gaze when he started to play his guitar with a kick. Lenore moved her hand away from Peninha and came up to Ian. When he started to sing, her eyes were shining with a life that was unusual for people to see with such wounded souls. Well, now I can understand Lenore’s charm was characteristic of people who combined profound vulnerability with a will to survive. Well, that first night next to her, so many things happened to me. What I understood was just mere intuition. I clearly remember her voices as a duet. Lenore listened attentively to the melody and started to sing at the start of the second verse. It was as if both her voices belonged to another time and we were all carried to another distant, mythical past, to another life. How to find the words to describe this enchanting, hypnotic and ruling power music can have over someone? Until now, this frustrating feeling stayed and nothing I say or write will ever be able to describe all these imaginary places, all these marks on my body and my spirit’s paths driven by those voices on the first morning of the year 1970. Dunes The memories of the days that followed meeting Lenore still exuded a tenderness as if the three of us were entangled in some fantasy world back then. We played afternoons and evenings. At that time, I had already learned how to improve my musical gift at the time of the New Year. Apart from the drums, I also played the acoustic guitar and bass well. I really had started to master these instruments night and day. I was so happy with myself that I didn’t even want to consider how I had become so talented. It was possible I could have made some pact with some supernatural being. Well, I knew someone from the afterlife was protecting me. Peninha always visited us. This afternoon, while on a break, he said something that struck a chord in me. “We have all different kinds of love between the four of us, “he asserted confidently as usual.” “What do you mean?” I asked. “Finally, you heard me, Duda! Did you finally get the vast wisdom of my words?” Lenore and Ian laughed at the same time. They appeared to be deeply in love. Peninha was hoping we would all hang out the way he liked to do a lot back then. “Look, here’s a typical love between two people that just found each other and have a strong connection. We also have a strong connection as friends and brothers and now, I have my love for Lenore, which is like a love you have for an elusive muse. Ian, I know that she chose you and not me. Stay,calm.” Ian kissed Lenore as if he wanted to mark her as his territory and she had actually agreed to that. Peninha kept talking, “But we have, overall, love for the arts. Passion for music. This is the great link: the joint creation!” “Maybe, music is playing in your head?” “I’m not saying it’s a song or I’m a composer but I think my musical creation secretly influences where you both came from. I also discovered the name for our band. “What band, dude? We only play for fun. It’s not a joke. I’ll be the boss of everyone and we’ll have worldwide fame. I swear!” Ian struck a chord on the guitar and Lenore burst out laughing. “Tell me, wise expert, Peninha, what will the name of our band be then?” “Triaprima!” “Such a beautiful name, “said Lenore. “Does it have a meaning? Where did you find it or did you come up with it?” “Triaprima is an old term from the ancient science of Alchemy. It is when spiritual beings come up with an environment of profound creativity. It’s a union between three magic methods: art, love, and words. “How beautiful, Peninha! I love it! shouted Lenore eagerly. “And, within our threesome, you definitely represent love, Ian, the gift of music and Duda, our poet and drummer, the gift of speech. Ian became serious like he didn’t appreciate Lenore’s excitement about the name of the band or more so Peninha’s talk. He strummed the guitar loudly but before he could say anything, Peninha, undoubtedly, saw how jealous his friend was and decided to egg him on even more. “Wait. I need to explain more clearly my idea about life. I was born a Taurus. Therefore, I am a child of Venus. In astrology, Venus rules the fifth house where creativity and love were born. There isn’t creativity without passion.” Lenore laughed a lot after these last words Peninha spoke. I got curious. “And so, my dear muse, do you agree with this crazy hypothesis?” “I think reality is present when illusion needs protection.” We praised that line she said. However, on many occasions, we men just kept talking. The beautiful muse only got to say one beautiful line now and then. Today, when I think about those afternoons, Lenore didn’t care about us showing off or our bragging, but just the opposite. I think she appreciated her role as an observer to be able to understand without saying a word. What I feel is more powerful than the day I wrote my first song titled “Dunas”. Right at dusk, all of us were in the dunes, Ian was playing short melodies on the fly and Lenore hummed along. Suddenly, it was if I heard something. I heard the song coming from the sea, the noise of evolving sand dunes, and the sad melody of the setting sun. These words left my body and surrounded Ian’s music. “I love these lines!” Lenore shouted. “I am going to use them in a song.” When I heard Lenore sing my words, I felt confident that I never would desire another emotion so tender. I remembered Peninha’s theory, the love story born from what he described as joint creation. I stared at Lenore and saw that I had become hopelessly in love. I also felt as if a knife had wounded me on the left side of my body. I looked away just when Ian gave me the most painful and jealous look. “Awesome expert Bowie!”! “Only you would say that out loud.” “Fame is nothing.” Today, so many years after the enormous success of our band, Triaprima, when I go into a restaurant, I still have to choose a table in the back so I don’t risk being recognized. I think about those words of David Bowie: fame, fame, fame. What do you gain when your future is over? That moment that makes you go insane. On stage, its the opposite feeling of ecstasy, the emotional dissatisfaction from the loneliness in hotels, and the constant harrassment of vicious vampires. All those unknown creatures that need to touch us and imprision us; whatever the shackle may be: drugs, sex, or escape from loneliness. During my break from our last show, Camboriú, we returned to Santa Catarina, which was the origin of the band. I already was rich enough to live off what I had earned for the rest of my life. I never returned to create or start any type of job. I just spent life wandering through the city’s bookstores and the beaches of the world always hidden behind a mask. It seemed as if stories about the sea existed in books and the sea itself was the only space capable of welcoming a lost soul always searching for the meaning of a past too painful to even understand. Even so, I have to understand everything that happened to us. That’s the reason I decided to write. It wasn’t to publish a biography a publishing company would approve of or to make more money off my past. I wanted to write this history, separate the pages and burn them in a bonfire at night in the dunes with the sea as my witness. The same sea that took from me the two people I loved the most. Ghost São Paolo - 2006 “What was the strangest, worst, and most disastrous decision you ever made in your life?” Lenore laughed at the question her best friend asked that Saturday afternoon because she was dragged out of the house do nothing but visit thrift stores and beach shops in Benedito Calixto. It was sunny but windy that day. The Winter in São Paulo was coming soon. On the other corner of the street, Teodoro Sampaio, there was a music shop and a band was playing a cover of Lenore, the old song by Triaprima. “Mari, did you know that my mother baptized me after ‘Lenore’, this song by Triaprima?” “Seriously?” “So, you already read it?” “Duda’s diary?” “That’s it. The chapters are on the band’s website. Where did they come from? No one was ever able to figure out where he was? Maybe he was some ghost like Elvis? Or like Jim Morrison? Maybe the guy died and he just hid under a different name? Many people do this.” “Someone told me the texts were being left in buried bottles close to the Camboriú Sea in Santa Catarina. Have you thought about that?” “But it wasn’t the same beach where that tragedy happened?” “I’m not sure,” Lenore said as she avoided direct contact with her friend. “I already know you hate talking about the sea.” Lenore walked towards the cash register to pay for the blouse she picked out. “You still have nightmares about tsunamis?” Mari insisted out of curiosity. “Yes, I do.” “That’s crazy! I love the sea. I want to go to Bahia during July, “Mari said as if she wanted to show off how much braver she was compared to her friend. “I want to be like you,” Lenore confessed, dismissing her friend’s taunting. “I want to be like you! Well, I want your blonde,curly hair, your green eyes, your slimness, and your intelligence.” “Are you crazy, Mari? You are way more beautiful than me! You don’t want to be like me.” “Uh, I don’t think about stuff like that.” “What do you think about? Do you still dream about that Irish ghost?” “I still do.” “What does he look like? “He looks like Ian, from Triaprima, only more beautiful.” “Why do you dream about him like that? Have you already told your mom about him? The two sat down on the park bench and Lenore kept talking. “Yes, I already told her. My mom said she regrets having given me the name from the song. But ‘Lenore’ was the song that was playing at a party when my mother first met my father. It was their kind of music.” “‘Lenore’ was the preferred style of music for most people. When I first started to have nightmares, I was afraid of the sea and she thought that was strange.” “And then what?” “So, she decided to look into the origin of my name and the song.” “Keep going.” “My mom said there are many stories about Ian. The main one tells of a boy who was an Irish businessman and widower, who came to live in Brazil. He met Lenore in Floripa. They fell in love and Ian wrote the song based on a poem written by Edgard Allan Poe. It was kind of a coincidence. It was Ian’s favorite poem.” “And then?” “Duda, Lenore and Iam created Triaprima. However, the idea of putting the band together came from their manager of the band, Peninha. Also, he was the one who invented the name based on medieval alchemy terms.” “That part of their success as a band people already know about. I love all their other songs too. But, now, tell me the unofficial story that your mom found out.” “One time we went to Barra do Saí. I was just six years old. Our house faced the beach. It was hot and the doors were open to air out the house.” “What did you do?” “At dawn, my mom was thirsty and got up to drink a glass of wáter. She looked at my bedroom door and saw it was open. She ran to see where I was. The bed was empty and she ran to the beach, extremely nervous. It was dark and she couldn’t see anything.” “And then, go on, tell me what’s next.” “She found me walking along the edge of the beach humming ‘Lenore’ sort of sleepwalking. When my mom asked me what I was doing there, I answered in English.”

He gave up his youth to El Siglo. His father agreed he would serve as a volunteer. “His destiny started to come together when he met Juan Demarchi, who had a precarious lifestyle ever since he fled from Italy to avoid having to enlist in the army” recalls Amorós. He remembers tracing his pilgrimage from France, to the “erupting volcano” in Barcelona in the late 14th century, then Portugal, Marruecos, Brazil, and Argentina before arriving in Chile. This is where he spread his ideology until they deported him to Buenos Aires in 1926 for inciting a wave of solidarity amongst the labor workers.

Este pequeño trozo de roca ha abierto una ventana al conocimiento de la composición y estructura de los materiales presentes en el manto interior de la Tierra. El diamante procedía de una mina de Botsuana y se formó a más de 660 kilómetros de profundidad, en el límite superior del manto interior, y en su interior se encuentra un mineral de silicato recién identificado llamado davemaoita, del que hasta ahora no se tenía conocimiento en el medio natural. Hasta ahora este mineral, la davemaoita, solo se había obtenido en análisis de laboratorio. Es la primera vez que los científicos consiguen demostrar definitivamente su existencia, pues hasta la fecha únicamente había sido documentado en experimentos de laboratorio. I am a recent graduate from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign University in the Translation Studies and Interpretation Program. I also attended UC Santa Barbara where I received a BA in Economics and Spanish and a minor in Portuguese. Over the past two years, I have taken coursework where I have done numerous translations in Spanish and Portuguese that have included professional and literary pieces. I have also taken a subtitling course as well as a course on localization. I subtitled one film in Spanish. I am familiar with a wide array of CAT tools including subtitling software from the different translation projects I worked on over my two years in graduate school.
