Born
and raised in a monolingual household in the UK, I was able to gain a strong
grounding in my first language of English before developing my curiosity for
other languages in my teens and twenties.
I
was awarded a Bachelor's degree in French Studies from the University of
Sheffield in 2005, with a year spent teaching English in a French high school.
After graduation I returned to France, first to teach in a university and later
to teach professionals. This was a key period for me, as I worked with air
traffic controllers, engineers and automotive designers in highly technical
settings and was enthralled by their skills and how they applied. I was deeply curious
about how I could understand these fields in two languages simultaneously.
I
moved to Romania at the age of 25, continued working as a freelance English and
intercultural trainer and assiduously worked on my Romanian. Three years on, I
accepted a place at the ISIT interpreting school in Paris and graduated two
years later with a Master’s degree in Conference Interpreting (En A, Fr C, Ro
C). I have worked on the Paris and Bucharest markets as a freelance interpreter
since 2013, having completed an interpreting internship and the Court of
Justice of the European Union in 2015. That same year, I also spent a happy six
months as an inhouse translator for a well-known French website (lesnumeriques.com),
translating and localising the English-language website of the brand.
Since
returning from maternity leave in 2017, I have been happily combining
translation and interpreting work whilst living close to the Carpathian
mountains in Romania. I live near enough to Bucharest to travel for
interpreting assignments, work from home on French and Romanian translations
into English and am involved with establishing a craft beer company. Cheers!
