Source text - English XXX believes used equipment can serve a valuable role within IT strategies, as corporations are increasingly pressed to meet new business application demands with limited available funding and skill sets. Many companies already take advantage of used equipment in cases where budgets require creative funding, however, RFG finds that there are numerous other business-related usage scenarios that are an appropriate venue for used equipment. Enterprises that necessitate immediate access to hardware, need additional computing power but wish to maintain infrastructure consistency, and/or require identical systems for testing and/or disaster recovery/business continuity strategies are also good used equipment candidates. Vendors perform rigorous testing and refurbishment to ensure that products are fully hardware and software restored before offering systems for resale. After hardware is tested and sufficiently data cleansed, vendors – particularly those associated with original equipment manufacturer (OEM) hardware providers – are able to offer low-rate financing and full warranty support options. IT executives should look beyond the tactical cost savings potential of used equipment, and maximize their spending capabilities by expanding hardware acquisition techniques to leverage used equipment as a means of solving strategic business requirements.

These days, there are two main strategic visions to save the future of urban life:
Sustainable urban development and preservation of quality of life. Mobility is a
crucial element of quality of life. Smart modern public transport systems are
predestined to ensure the fundamental right to mobility as well as to minimize the
negative environmental effects like pollutants, noise or waste of urban area. A proven technology to reach these targets is the electric Trolleybus System. It provides the same urban-friendly advantages as a Light Rail System, can be introduced in much shorter timescales and requires only 10 to 15% of the investment costs.
Worldwide success
Trolleybus Systems are well known all over the world. 40 000 vehicles are being
operated in around 370 cities, in 47 countries as different as Russia, Canada,
Ecuador, Mexico, New Zealand, China, Greece or countries of Eastern Europe. This success story dates back to 1882, when the first trolleybus was built by the German engineer Werner von Siemens. Around 1930 the age of the modern Trolleybus System began when reliable overhead contact systems were introduced. Since then this principle has constantly been improved
and developed further. Some cities, for example Rome, are reintroducing the
Trolleybus System after it had been replaced by diesel buses decades ago.

Source text - English Implementing an eCall solution
eCall is the pan-European in-vehicle emergency Call project. It is part of an initiative by the European Union to establish a Europe-wide location-enhanced emergency-response network in order to reduce the number of highway fatalities in the European Union. Based on the 112 number, which is accessible from virtually all wired and mobile phones in Europe, emergency calls arrive at a “Public Safety Answering Point” (PSAP) from which emergency response units are dispatched.
Response times of the emergency services are of vital importance in the event of road traffic accidents. The eCall system therefore proposes that location information should be gathered by an in-car device and transmitted with the emergency call.
It is expected that eCall may be mandatory by 2010 for all new cars sold in the EU. Over the longer term, the eCall project is expected to drive the introduction of GSM-enabled equipment in all cars, making possible a wide range of new services.
When considering how best to implement an eCall solution, there are several considerations to be taken into account.
Cost Reduction
The eCall IVS function is to:
• Collect data from the vehicle network and from vehicle sensors, and maintain an up-to-date GPS-fix of the vehicle’s location.
• Automatically detect a crash based on car-sensor information.
• Call a PSAP automatically when a crash is detected (or when the driver presses a dedicated eCall button) to establish voice contact between the car’s occupants and a PSAP operator, and to transmit data including the current GPS position.

eCall est la désignation du projet paneuropéen de système d’appel d’urgence (emergency Call) embarqué en véhicule. Il fait partie d’une initiative de l’Union Européenne visant à établir un réseau de réponse d’urgence par positionnement géographique à l’échelle européenne, dont le but est de réduire le nombre d’accidents mortels sur les routes de l’Union Européenne. Partant du numéro 112, joignable depuis pratiquement tous les téléphones fixes et mobiles en Europe, les appels d’urgence parviennent à un « Point public de réponse de sécurité » (PSAP, Public Safety Answering Point) qui gère les unités d’intervention d’urgence.
Dans le cas d’accidents de la route, les temps de réponse des services d’urgence sont d’une importance vitale. Le système eCall propose donc que les coordonnées de l’appelant soient recueillies directement dans le véhicule d’intervention et transmises avec l’appel d’urgence.

Réduction des coûts

I have been working for 10 years now as a technical and literary translator as well as technical author. Prior to starting a freelance career, I worked for 3 years as an in-house translator, technical author and project manager for a major French multimedia and language solutions company (Paris- and Toulouse-based).
I have a double-facetted academic curriculum, since I graduated first from Paris VII University (Masters in Physics, Major in Satellite Imagery, Remote Sensing) in 1998 and then from Bordeaux III University (Masters in Translation for the Publishing Business) in 2005.
After a two-month vocational training as System (Unix), Network (TCP/IP) and Database (Oracle) administrator in a software and computing services company, I worked for 18 months as System & Network Engineer for one of the biggest French Telecommunication company (Bouygues telecom, Paris).
As a technical translator I now specialize in Aerospace, Engineering, Physics, Construction, IT and Computers, but I have had the opportunity to work in several other fields (marketing, automotive, medical, financial).
As a technical writer, I produced:
. in 2005: 2 user guides and 1 getting started (Word, English, software, approx. 200 pages) on M2M technology for an IT France-based company (Getting started with M2M Developer Suite);
. from 2005 to 2007: rework of after-sales documentation for a France-based hydraulic motor manufacturer (FrameMaker, French, repair procedures, know-how and value sheets, evolution of products, approx. 200 pages);
. from 2005 to 2007: part-time in-site technical writer for an American company developing barcode readers, then full time documentation manager of the R&D department in Toulouse (for 6 months); creation and update of integration guides and demo kits (FrameMaker, PageMaker and InDesign, English, barcode readers, approx. 500 pages);
. in 2007:
1. migration Word to FrameMaker of documentation for a French-based company developing safety-critical embedded softwares in Aerospace & Defense, Rail Transportation, Energy and Heavy Equipment Industries (450 pages);

2. I have written two Getting Started Guides as well as two User Guides for a Machine-to-Machine service portal (AirVantage) developed by Sierra Wireless (click here for more detail): one batch for the generic portal, the other for a special offering called SMart Automation.
I also maintain the technical documentation in a Confluence Wiki.
Fond of Sports, from team sports (football, rugby, volley ball) to outdoor sports (rock climbing, hiking, biking, ski touring), not to mention others (tennis, roller...), I am part of the French UEFA team of translators. As such, I translate on a weekly basis sports articles, video transcripts, match reports, backgrounds, reviews, official press releases...anything related to European football competitions and the UEFA. I do also voice-overs (with my own professional material - Samson Podcast, Audacity, Sony Vegas - and voice).
I also contribute to magazine translations on a regular basis. This is the case for the bilingual L'Architecture d'Aujourd'hui, an architecture magazine, for which I translated a number of articles (especially for issue # 378).
