To fight off developing insulin resistance, try to consume snacks that are low glycemic. Low glycemic foods are usually high in fiber and protein; examples include beans and meats. High glycemic foods provide a quick burst of energy followed by an inevitable post consumption slump. It is important to point out that even foods that rank higher on the GI scale can be combined with low glycemic foods to reduce their ranking. Keep in mind that if low glycemic foods are unavailable, eating a high glycemic snack is better than eating nothing at all. Try to keep low glycemic snacks on you at all times so when you need them, they'll be there.
