English to Indonesian: Petroleum Industry General field: Tech/Engineering Detailed field: Petroleum Eng/Sci
Source text - English The petroleum industry includes the global processes of exploration, extraction, refining, transporting (often by oil tankers and pipelines), and marketing petroleum products. The largest volume products of the industry are fuel oil and gasoline (petrol). Petroleum (oil) is also the raw material for many chemical products, including pharmaceuticals, solvents, fertilizers, pesticides, and plastics. The industry is usually divided into three major components: upstream, midstream and downstream. Midstream operations are usually included in the downstream category.
Petroleum is vital to many industries, and is of importance to the maintenance of industrial civilization in its current configuration, and thus is a critical concern for many nations. Oil accounts for a large percentage of the world’s energy consumption, ranging from as low of 32% for Europe and Asia, up to a high of 53% for the Middle East.
Other geographic regions’ consumption patterns are as follows: South and Central America (44%), Africa (41%), and North America (40%). The world consumes 30 billion barrels (4.8 km³) of oil per year, with developed nations being the largest consumers. The United States consumed 25% of the oil produced in 2007.[1] The production, distribution, refining, and retailing of petroleum taken as a whole represents the world's largest industry in terms of dollar value.
Governments such as the United States government provide a heavy public subsidy to petroleum companies, with major tax breaks at virtually every stage of oil exploration and extraction, including for the costs of oil field leases and drilling equipment.[2]

That is my top reason for entering the translation industry.
My enthusiasm for translation grows along with my job history, starting from working as a project secretary for JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency), an in-house translator for an Indonesian engineering and management consulting company, until my job as a marketing and business development staff in a prominent Japanese engineering consulting company. Through this job history, I gain and enhance my translation skill in engineering, environment (climate change), poverty reduction, finance, and legal fields.
A request made by my former employer to translate a document was the milestone of my freelance translation experience. From then on, I have been receiving continuous translation requests from various clients abroad and within the country.
Realizing that I must keep improving my capability, I attended some trainings and workshops held by HPI (Association of Indonesian Translators), in which I am a full member. It is my involvement therein which led me to decide to join legal translation courses, where I enhanced my capability of translating complicated legal documents. HPI Legal Translation Certificates (English into Indonesian and vice versa) is one of my latest credentials evidencing my legal translation capability.
Having a total translation experience of 10+ years and a strong willingness to keep improving my capability (including adding my specialization in oil and gas translation), I guarantee that I can provide prompt, reliable translation results with high quality. But mind you, such excellent results are reflected on my premium rates.
