Source text - French En fonction de l’essence, l’écorce peut parfois être très épaisse (jusqu’à 40 mm). Un prélèvement en forme d’ogive, est alors directement détouré dans une partie de l’arbre sur pied, et ce dernier survivra (Haut-Xingú, Amazonie ; bassin de la Murray, Australie). Ou alors, pour des écorces moins épaisses (8-12 mm, ou moins), elle est intégralement prélevée sous la forme d’un cylindre fendu, entraînant généralement la mort de la plupart des arbres. Une entaille circulaire est ainsi réalisée à la base de l’arbre, une autre à une hauteur correspondant à la longueur du futur esquif, enfin une entaille verticale les relie. L’épaisseur et la rigidité propre de l’écorce vont également influencer directement la forme et le type de canoë fabriqué. Cette rigidité est souvent réduite, temporairement, en chauffant l’écorce ou en l’immergeant, par exemple en Afrique orientale, pendant plusieurs jours dans l’eau.
Translation - English Depending on the tree species, the bark can sometimes be very thick (up to 40 mm). An ogive-shaped piece of bark is cut directly from part of the unfelled tree, which survives (Upper Xingú, Amazonia; Murray River Basin, Australia). Or for thinner bark (8-12 mm or less), it is entirely removed in the form of a split cylinder, which generally leads to the death of the majority of trees. A circular slit is cut at the base of the tree, with another at a height corresponding to the length of the planned canoe, and the two slits are connected by a further, vertical cut. The inherent thickness and rigidity of the bark also directly influence the form and type of the canoe produced. This rigidity is often temporarily reduced by heating the bark or, for example in East Africa, by submerging it in water for several days.

Source text - Swedish Med all stress vi har omkring oss tror jag att vi alla skulle behöva ge oss själva lite mer tid för vila och återhämtning. Den senaste tiden har också begreppet ”idleness”, att göra absolut ingenting utan bara vara lättjefull och sysslolös, dykt upp igen. Det är ingen ny idé utan en klassisk filosofisk tanke som återigen lyfts fram som ett sätt att skapa luft, avkoppling och utrymme för reflektion i våra så fullbokade dagar.
Att vara lite lagom lat kan också vara smart, och innebära att du gör saker på ett så enkelt sätt som möjligt och med minsta möjliga energiåtgång. Att du hushållar med din energi och dina resurser och hittar enkla, kreativa sätt att klara uppgifter. Bill Gates lär ha sagt: ”Jag skulle välja en lat person till att göra ett svårt jobb. För en lat person skulle hitta ett enkelt sätt att göra jobbet på”.
Translation - English With all the stress around us, my feeling is that we could all do with taking a little more time for rest and recovery. The expression 'idleness' – doing absolutely nothing but being indolent and unoccupied – has recently become popular again. This isn't a new idea, but a classic philosophical notion that is once again being highlighted as a way of creating space, relaxation and time for reflection in our so very fully booked days.
Being just lazy enough can also mean using your time intelligently. In other words, doing things as simply as possible and using the least possible amount of energy. Conserving your energy and your resources and finding simple, creative ways of getting things done. Bill Gates is supposed to have said: "I choose a lazy person to do a hard job. Because a lazy person will find an easy way to do it".
