Source text - English THE NEGRO met the first of the ladies at the front door and let them in, with their hushed, sibilant voices and their quick, curious glances, and then he disappeared. He walked right through the house and out the back and was not seen again.
The two female cousins came at once. They held the funeral on the second day, with the town coming to look at Miss Emily beneath a mass of bought flowers, with the crayon face of her father musing profoundly above the bier and the ladies sibilant and macabre; and the very old men --some in their brushed Confederate uniforms--on the porch and the lawn, talking of Miss Emily as if she had been a contemporary of theirs, believing that they had danced with her and courted her perhaps, confusing time with its mathematical progression, as the old do, to whom all the past is not a diminishing road but, instead, a huge meadow which no winter ever quite touches, divided from them now by the narrow bottle-neck of the most recent decade of years.
Already we knew that there was one room in that region above stairs which no one had seen in forty years, and which would have to be forced. They waited until Miss Emily was decently in the ground before they opened it.
The violence of breaking down the door seemed to fill this room with pervading dust. A thin, acrid pall as of the tomb seemed to lie everywhere upon this room decked and furnished as for a bridal: upon the valance curtains of faded rose color, upon the rose-shaded lights, upon the dressing table, upon the delicate array of crystal and the man's toilet things backed with tarnished silver, silver so tarnished that the monogram was obscured. Among them lay a collar and tie, as if they had just been removed, which, lifted, left upon the surface a pale crescent in the dust. Upon a chair hung the suit, carefully folded; beneath it the two mute shoes and the discarded socks.
The man himself lay in the bed.
For a long while we just stood there, looking down at the profound and fleshless grin. The body had apparently once lain in the attitude of an embrace, but now the long sleep that outlasts love, that conquers even the grimace of love, had cuckolded him. What was left of him, rotted beneath what was left of the nightshirt, had become inextricable from the bed in which he lay; and upon him and upon the pillow beside him lay that even coating of the patient and biding dust.
Then we noticed that in the second pillow was the indentation of a head. One of us lifted something from it, and leaning forward, that faint and invisible dust dry and acrid in the nostrils, we saw a long strand of iron-gray hair.
Translation - Chinese 黑仆人出门接最先到的妇女们,让她们进房里去。嘘嘘咝咝地她们涌进去了,敏锐而好奇的目光四处游移。黑仆人穿过房子,从后门走出去了;从此销声匿迹。

Source text - Chinese 三十年前的上海,一个有月亮的晚上……我们也许没赶上看见三十年前的月亮。年轻的人想着三十年前的月亮该是铜钱大的一个红黄的湿晕,像朵云轩信笺上落了一滴泪珠,陈旧而迷糊。老年人回忆中的三十年前的月亮是欢愉的,比眼前的月亮大,圆,白;然而隔着三十年的辛苦路往回看,再好的月色也不免带点凄凉。
Translation - English Thirty years ago in Shanghai, there was a moonlit night……of which we had missed to catch the moon. Young people must have thought the moon thirty years ago to be a reddish yellow blush as big as a copper cash coin, looked as if a drop of tear on the letter paper from the old cloud house, aged and dimmed. Of the moon of thirty years ago, old people had always retained delightful memories; of which, compared to the current one, was larger, rounder, and whiter. However it was, after a thirty years miserable journey of tremendous sufferings, the best moonlight would have been shaded with loneliness and desolation.
QI Qiao was lying on the cigarette store, half-sleeping. Thirty years had she been held in this bondage of gold. Cruelly she had slaughtered a few with the heavy flail, rendering those survived fatally wounded. She knew that her son and daughter hated her with a vengeance; her in-laws and her parents’, too, vehemently abhorred her. Feeling the blue jade bracelet on her wrist, she slowly pushed it upward through her bony arm, up to her armpit. It was now hard to believe that she once had round, plumpy arms; unbelievable that the few years after marriage, only a crape handkerchief could be squeezed in between the bracelet and her wrist. During her eighteen or nineteen, flamboyantly she would wear blue, silky laced grass linen dress, revealing her snowy-white hands, and swagger to the market for grocery.
Numerous had crushed on her: Chao Lu in the butcher shop, her brother’s sworn brothers: Ding Yu Gen and Zhang Yu Quan, and Chen tailor’s son. Normally crushes on her had only been an open jest; had she had picked one of them, got married, and given birth to a baby later in life, the man would, only then, start to love and appreciate her. QI Qiao slightly shifted the Western-style pillow beside the lotus leaf under her head, which her face pressed onto, rubbing one side of her tears; the one drop of tear on the other side she was indolent to bother about wiping off, letting them dry on her cheeks.
Of thirty years ago, the moon, had long sunk in the past; the people, had all long died; yet, the story has not ended–-it will go on indefinitely.

Source text - Chinese 英语在马来西亚的中小学课程中是必修科,虽然它不是马来西亚的国语,不过却是马来西亚社会里的主要媒介语,也是工商界上的通用语。在马来西亚生活的华人一般都懂至少三种语言,其中包括自己的母语(华语或者其它华人方言)、英语和马来语。虽然这些人都在同样一个大环境下生活,但是他们当中有人掌握了良好的三语能力,有人却只掌握了其中两种甚至只有一种语言能力。教育心理学一般认为,影响学习效率的基本因素主要有三个方面:个体生理因素、个体心理因素、个体环境因素。多数人都认为一个人的语言能力与环境因素有很大的关系。环境因素主要包括生活环境和教育条件等。普遍来看,在马来西亚英语能力不佳的学生多数是在非英语家庭环境下成长的孩子,这样的家庭环境形成了他们不说英语的习惯。在学校,如果这些人还选择和自己同样背景的同学为友的话,他们使用英语的机会就变得更少。相反的,如果这群学生选择与多说英语的同学为友,在课堂上也愿意去克服学习障碍和提升自己的不足,他们还是可以有效地提升自己的英语能力。换言之,在二语学习的过程中,除了受到环境因素影响之外,心理因素也支配着学习者的整个学习过程,使他们对学习能够产生某种倾向,并影响着他们的学习行为和学习效果。
语言学习,就其本质而言是一个认知的过程,人的认识心理过程主要包括注意力,感知以及思维跟记忆力。注意力是人的认识心理过程的开始,感知是思维和记忆力产生的基础,人脑对感知材料的加工属于思维,认识的存储和提取产生了记忆力。从心理学的角度看,人们的认知活动总是和一定的心理因素相伴相随的。心理因素对于整个认知活动具有不可低估的作用,二者总是相辅相成,贯穿于语言学习的全过程。在二语学习过程中,绝对没有离开心理因素而独立进行的认知活动。大量针对学习成果和心理因素的研究都把焦点放在焦虑感,其它负面情绪的探讨相对显得薄弱。有鉴于此,这项研究将深入探讨焦虑感以外的心理因素对学习第二语言的影响。此研究通过AM的方式让三个英语偏弱的华裔成年人说出自己过去25年里在英语学习和使用过程中所遭遇过的不愉快经历,并要求他们说出这些不愉快的经历给他们心理带来的影响和学习心态的转变。
Translation - English English is a compulsory subject in primary and secondary education in Malaysia; even though it is not the national language, it is the main medium of communication in the society of Malaysia and the lingua franca in the business world here. In general, Chinese who live in Malaysia speak at least three languages, i.e. their mother tongue (Mandarin or other Chinese dialects), English and Malay. Despite the same big environment in which all Chinese grow up, some have mastered these three languages, some only two of the three, and some only one. It is commonly acknowledged in educational psychology that there are three aspects to the basic factors affecting one’s learning efficiency, i.e. individual physiology, individual psychology, and individual environment. Most people believe that a person’s language ability is largely correlated with the environmental factor, which primarily consists of one’s living environment and educational conditions. In general, most students with poor English ability come from non-English-speaking families where their non-English speaking habit was formed. If at school, this group of students chooses to befriend classmates of similar background, the opportunity for them to use English will be further reduced. On the contrary, if this group of students chooses to befriend English-speaking classmates, and is willing to overcome their learning barriers and improve their weaknesses, they will still be able to effectively improve their English ability. In other words, during second-language acquisition, apart from the environmental factor, psychological factors also dominate the learner’s entire learning process, which will determine the kind of propensity to be developed during learning, and have an impact on their learning behavior and effect. Language learning is in essence a cognitive process, which comprises mainly of attention, perception, thoughts, and memories. Attention is the beginning of one’s cognitive process, while perception is the foundation formed by thoughts and memories. The processing of perceptual materials in the brain becomes the thoughts, while the storing and extracting of the cognition builds the memories. Psychologically speaking, cognitive activities go hand in hand with psychological factors, which exert an impact to be reckoned with on the said activities. They are inseparably interconnected throughout the language-learning process. During second-language acquisition, it is impossible that a cognitive activity takes place independently from psychological factors. Ample studies on learning outcomes and psychological factors have focused on the sense of anxiety, rather than other negative emotions. In view of that, this paper will probe in-depth into other psychological factors, besides anxiety, that affect second-language acquisition. In this study, three Chinese adults with relatively limited English proficiency will speak, by way of AM, about their unpleasant experiences while learning and using the language and how these experiences have impacted them psychologically and changed their learning attitude.
