Although I started working with WordFast Classic some years ago, I am far from being an expert, or even knowledgeable about it. I Have never gotten round to exploiting all of its functions or possibilities. For example, I've never really used the glossary function, and there are some things that I would like to do with it (for example, I would like the target segment to replicate the punctuation of the source segment) but have simply never bothered finding out if they can be done, or how to do t... However, I get by without them.Collapse

I used Trados for a while (two years) when I was working in-house, I hated it and dropped it as soon as I started freelancing after my retirement. I’ve been using XTM for one of my clients for some time now, let’s say that I'm familiar enough to get the job done but I’m very far from being an expert…

I use MateCat, because it's free, and I learned to use it in about 30 seconds.

And everyone whines about the leading CATs anyway, which are NOT free, AND are more complicated.

I might sound like an ad but ... MateCat gets the job done. I don't want or need anything else.

Nope. They do what I need them to do. I know they can do all sorts of other stuff but clients don't demand it and I'd rather concentrate on learning other stuff if I have time and energy for learning anything!

I consider myself an expert at about 75% of features in Wordfast Classic 6, although the current version is version 8.

Why? Jan 30, 2020

If mostly all people are forks/ spoons/ knives/ pans/ clothes/ consume *experts*, then me too, perhaps. However, who might need to be generally recognized as a CAT expert--for what exactly?

On the other hand, I think many big CATs vendors often overburden the tools with whistle-trinkets features, just increasing the 'professional' price.

There are still some features I haven't explored. The most important one is learning how to use the REGEX, a very useful resource which I hadn't had the time to study and practice, yet. And I know there are others that I still don't know.

REGEX is a powerful and useful tool (I use memoQ and OmegaT), and I'm mastering it... somehow. But it's a long way to go.

No I don't Mar 24, 2020

Define expert (big word!).

I know my way around with several CAT tools, so I consider myself as a (succesfull) user.
