Source text - English Bullying is any behaviour that is intended to hurt, is repeated and where it’s hard for the person or people on the receiving end to defend themselves (in other words - the bully has the power). Children are most often bullied by other children, but can also be bullied by adults.
What bullying looks like
Hurtful behaviour takes many forms but children tell us that the most frequent form of bullying is name calling (don’t believe the old sticks and stones rhyme - words hurt more than anything). Bullying can also be physical and emotional, and can take place face to face and online (cyberbullying). Interestingly, children tell us that that the face to face stuff is the hardest.
Targeting ‘difference’
Children that bully very often target any kind of perceived ‘difference’. Sadly this means that disabled children and those with special educational needs, children with any kind of disfigurement, young carers, children in care, children from a minority ethnic background, children living in poverty, children who are bereaved, children with allergies, children who do not conform to gender ‘norms’ or are exploring their sexuality are very often targets.
Signs your child may be being bullied
Signs could include a change in your child’s behaviour (louder, quieter), scared to go to school or take part in their usual activities, unexplained illness like tummy bugs and headaches, disturbed sleep, bed wetting, injuries and lost or stolen belongings.

Atacando as diferenças
Crianças que praticam bullying frequentemente atacam qualquer tipo de “diferença” perceptível. Infelizmente isso implica que crianças deficientes e aquelas com necessidades educativas especiais, crianças com algum tipo de deformação, jovens prestadores de cuidados, crianças sob proteção social, crianças pertencentes a um grupo étnico minoritário, crianças vivendo em situação de pobreza, crianças em luto, crianças com alergias e crianças que não se
encaixem nas “regras” de gênero ou estejam explorando sua sexualidade sejam alvos frequentes.
Sinais de que seu filho possa estar sofrendo bullying
Os sinais podem incluir uma mudança no comportamento de seu filho (mais barulhento, mais quieto), medo de ir à escola ou de participar nas atividades de costume, mal-estar sem explicação como dor de estômago ou dor de cabeça, sono perturbado, fazer xixi na cama, lesões e pertences perdidos ou roubados.

In a few weeks, critically acclaimed children’s book author/illustrator duo Matthew Swanson and Robbi Behr will be visiting your school, giving assemblies and donating a hardcover book to every student and teacher. Their visit is part of the Busload of Books Tour, in which Robbi, Matthew, and their four children will spend the 2022-2023 school year traveling the country visiting Title 1 eligible elementary schools in every state- hoping to foster reading, creativity, and storytelling.
RESEARCH INFORMATION
The Busload of Books Tour provides a rare opportunity for educational researchers to better understand the impact of author and illustrator visits on students, teachers, and schools. To that end, we’ve designed a survey that measures how your students think and feel about reading and writing. Participating students will complete a 5-minute survey before the assembly, another immediately after, and third one month later. Because the surveys are anonymous, researchers will not know your child’s name or any identifying information.
CONSENT TO PARTICIPATE IN SURVEY RESEARCH
You have the right to decide whether your student participates in this research project. In the coming days, you will receive a permission form that allows you to opt your student in or out of this study. Your student will also be asked if they want to complete the survey, and there is no penalty if they decline.

The appearance of the novel coronavirus has challenged governments worldwide, and caused suffering and hardship to millions. But that hardship has not been evenly distributed.
Children without internet access have missed out on education. Protestors and dissidents have suffered in custody. Throughout Angola and the world, human rights breaches due to Covid-19 worsened existing inequalities.
The Human Rights Measurement Initiative (HRMI) has conducted research into the effect of the pandemic on human rights in Angola.
HRMI’s research on the effect of Covid-19 on human rights:
The Human Rights Measurement Initiative (HRMI), an independent, non-profit research collective, is devoted to documenting and measuring how governments treat people.
As governments have faced the pressing challenge of responding to the Covid-19 pandemic, HRMI has sought to measure the impact of their responses on human rights.
In our research on how government responses to Covid-19 have affected human rights, we have observed stark differences in the actions of governments, and therefore the experiences of people. Government responses to the pandemic affected a broad range of rights, from access to food and education, to freedom from arbitrary arrest, to voting rights.
Human rights in Angola before the pandemic:
According to HRMI’s annual human rights scores, the Angolan government has struggled to keep its human rights promises over many years.
On average over the last decade, Angola has achieved less than half of what it should be capable of, given its national income, when it comes to the rights to education, food, health, housing, and work/adequate income.
When we look at HRMI’s scores for Angola for civil and political rights, we see that there was a drop in many scores between 2019 and 2020, as the pandemic hit, but that the scores were generally at a concerningly low level even before that drop.
