Excel file crashes constantly

While working with "tracked change" function, the Excel file crashes constantly. The program just closes with the following message:

Microsoft hat ein Problem festgestellt und das Programm muss beendet werden.

Does anybody know the cause of this problem?

Information about software: Office 07, Windows 97.

Try the method that has helped me lots of times in the past: open the file in Open Office and re-save.

P.S. Just out of pure interest: do you really use Office 2007 under Win 97?
