My work space isn't the most open and I would like having a little more desk space, but it’s quite comfortable and I suppose it’s also safe and healthy (plenty of natural light, almost no noise, good view to the small communal garden, everything I need is at reach…). | | | Muriel Vasconcellos (X) United States Local time: 17:12 Spanish to English + ... My layout and equipment are good and the chair is very comfortable. For a while my space looked really cool with a lot of empty surfaces, but over the holidays it has gotten too crowded with stuff, which affects my mood and outlook. I've been trying to translate, write and respond to Christmas messages, make year-end charity donations, answer e-mails, follow our interesting political scene in the U.S., and wrap packages for mailing, all in the same space. Also, I buy more books than I have time ... See more My layout and equipment are good and the chair is very comfortable. Healthy for me | Dec 29, 2017 |
I have a good chair, no back problems, and no health problems. I can provoke a migraine attack by sitting here too long and not taking enough breaks, but you can do that sort of thing in 100% ideal environments too.
It may be slightly too dusty for some, and the fire authorities might not approve - I have a neat little stand for my coffee cup with a tea-light in it, probably too close to heaps of paper ... but I don't use it much, and in 15 years I have only spilt one cup of coffee!... The spill risk is actually greater than the fire risk IMHO.
My work environment is the way I like it, and there is no one else to be annoyed by my regular airing out or whatever... and that overrides all the official theories. ▲ Collapse | | | Joohee Kim South Korea Local time: 10:12 English to Korean + ... good for now, but it can be better... | Dec 29, 2017 |

It's comfortable, with good lighting and ventilation, large and well-equipped.
I still need to troubleshoot a few issues: I must move to an area with less noise and I need an air-conditioner. I will hopefully settle this in 2018. | | | Tina Vonhof (X) Canada Local time: 18:12 Dutch to English + ...
Like most people I would like more desk space. I used to have a desk that curved out on the left, so I had space for extra papers or dictionaries but that didn't fit in my current apartment. The smaller desk I now have is adequate and I have a small filing cabinet beside it that holds my printer/scanner but my two monitors fill up about 2/3 of the space. I looked for a more ergonomic chair but discovered that these are not built for 5'2" women, so I have made my old chair more comfortable with a... I'm quite happy with it now. ▲ Collapse | |

This library has a very large stone gas log fireplace, which I work in front of sitting in a comfortable armchair with an ottoman, on top of which I can stretch out my legs as I work on my laptop or read. The fireplace throws off a lot of heat on cold winter days in Ohio. Also, I like to gaze into its flames from time to time to take a relaxing break from my work, although I'm afraid I can only indulge in that for a moment! Also, I consider the librarians who work in the Adult Services Department room, where I work, to be special friends of mine because, for one thing, they have done a great deal to promote my career as a translator. I'm always in a really good mood when I'm around them, and talking to them about, not just translating, but their lives, too. During the summer, I like to work at Oberlin College's library, which, at that time, is nice and cool and so still you could easily hear a pin drop, especially since almost all of the students are away until the Fall.
