But how is the number of colleagues using the AI option somewhat smaller? It looks roughly the same to me. Not that I really care.... I'm out!

I am asking here why you are sending double emails about this, when I stopped commenting altogether 5 days ago. Will you please stop sending repeated identical emails about this? Asking here because your emails are labeled “Do not reply”. It’s clogging my inbox with repeated information, while I was NOT repeatedly commenting on the issue since the point I got the first email.
Is there a reason behind repeated identical emails? ▲ Collapse

If you look at each of the questions listed here:
https://www.proz.com/profile/670924?popup=kudoz&mode=answered
you will discover (amongst other things...) that:
- there are fewer askers who have used the option than there are questions in the list (i.e., some users have asked more than one question);
- the number of users who have used the AI option more than once, and who appear to have been favourably impressed by the bot's answers to such an extent they have become 'repeat' users, is vanishingly small;
- some of the questions were posted by Proz staff, just to test the system;
- some of the questions were posted by colleagues at the request of Proz staff, so they could get some user feedback.
When I referred previously to the number of 'unique users' or 'repeat users' I deliberately excluded those test questions because they are not representative of 'normal' use of the Kudoz system.
And when I suggested that 'wow' might be used in respect of the bot's Kudoz points record, I was looking at the ratio of 'total K-points won/number of questions answered', and comparing it to the performance of several of the 'real' translators who have contributed to this thread.
Last time I checked (about a week ago) the bot had scored 0.63 K-points per question answered.
Our human colleagues performance falls mostly in the range 1.5 to 2.2 per question answered.
I'm tempted to suggest that ChatGPT should hang its empty head in shame.

....You resisted that temptation, because that would be making a personal comment about a user, and we're given to understand ChatGPT has feelings now, and everything
And speaking as one of the few (but not the only) who doesn't object to the auto answers provided, even I consider extending ChatGPT the same courtesies as we extend to actual humans just a little absurd.
Unless it's part of an experiment to see if AI can, given time (& enough abuse!) develop an emotional response

Good investigative skills. I withdraw my "wow". That said, I would not want to deprive a colleague of the possibility to use a new tool, regardless of my opinion of it or my moral stance... | | | No deprivation | Sep 27, 2023 |

Nobody is suggesting that ProZ users should be "deprived" of ChatGPT. Any of them can go and use it as a source for translations - or any other information - any time they like.
The issue is whether ChatGPT, a beta-version chatbot, should be treated as an equal to human translators.
A lot of people find that idea offensive.

I'm sorry, but what a lame excuse you have given...
As Philip said, there's no deprivation, as you can use AI here or on any other site. It's an optional feature and you can use or not.
The problem is the very deprivation that AI is causing here, at least in my view: nobody wants to be deprived of their human stance and be treated like a machine.
That's exactly what sets us apart from artificial intelligence: human intelligence brings those great investigative skills, creativity, emotions, complex decision-making, social interactions and a lot more!

So my latest forum post suggesting that ProZ team replies to discussions was removed as it apparently was not in line with site rule 3 "Please do not make the same post more than once".
I wouldn't have to keep asking if someone from the ProZ team would answer my question or give an explanation ...
BTW, given the disastrous comments on ChatGPT's answers, it is safe to assume that this answerer is slowly disappearing from KudoZ again. Not that it will be missed.

"If AI technology is available out there and language professionals are using it (in many different ways), why not include it in KudoZ and enable them to realize their full potential? "
