On my main PC, when I hit CTRL ALT G having highlighted a phrase or
word in any application including Word, the phrase appears in quotes
in Google Deskbar, which is just fine, because then I do not have to
enter those manually. In Word this seems to be controlled by the
template called normal.dot, since if that template is not checked in
templates and add-in in Word, the captioned feature no longer works.

Question: Where in Google Deskbar or Word is this controlled or set?
Reason for question: I need to enable this feature on other computers. Curiously, it only works on one of my computers right now. ▲ Collapse | | | In Google Deskbar Options | Apr 11, 2007 |
Question: Where in Google Deskbar or Word is this controlled or set?
Click on the arrow in Google Deskbar and then choose "Options" from the list. In the "General" tab you'll see the option "Shortcut for jumping to search box".

That's the short-cut which precisely does not insert automatic quotes around the selected phrase on all my computers, except for one. There ought to be an option for "automatic insert quotes" so you don't have to do this all the time yourself manually.
I don't know how that feature has wiggled itself into just one computer, but I would like to be able to copy it.

I see what you mean, now, but unfortunately, I've no idea how this is done - I don't even have it on my PC; when I press CTR+ALT+G, I get the phrase without quotes. If you find out what the trick is, do post here again, because it would certainly be useful to have the automatic insertion of quotes. | | | Yngve Roennike Local time: 19:07 Swedish to English + ... Well, it remains a mystery to me too.
Could have something to do with a so-called style sheet in Word for Windows, e.g., normal.dot, since when I manage to copy that over to another computer, this feature suddenly begin working, but it does not explain why it works even when you are not highlighting a word/phrase in Word. But then I must have set it up at one within that particular style sheet, I would think.

I've posted the same question on the official google blog, but even there no one seems to know or care.
Ergonomically, a great feature as it is, it bears investigation, I'd say. ▲ Collapse | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Google deskbar automatic quote insertion Trados Studio 2022 Freelance | The leading translation software used by over 270,000 translators.
