Hi,

Sorry, I'm not really certain the fields I put are correct.

"Système d'émission selon la revendication précédente, dans lequel la fibre optique est microstructurée et/ou dopée et/ou à dimension transverse décroissante en fonction de la propagation ("taper").

I have no idea what "taper" is here, please help!

Thank you in advance

I appreciate your help Thank you rkillings, Mohd shadab, Clare Cornford and kashew :)
rkillings Dec 6, 2011:
tapered (verb, past tense) microstructured and/or doped and/or tapered. Then put the translation of the French description (à dimension …) in parenthesis. (The English noun 'taper' is the equivalent of that description without the preposition à.)
3ADE shadab Dec 5, 2011:
Leave "taper" as it is. It is obviously a patent document, so I would translate the French and then leave the '("taper")' as it is. Alternatively, you could do a search on the European Patent Bureau site to see how other patents render the phrase.
Clare Cornford (X) Dec 5, 2011:
or ("fibre tapering") - although they've used a noun "taper" (for "tapered fibre")
I would include it, as it is the name of the process they have just referred to.
Louisa Tchaicha (asker) Dec 5, 2011:
I could put (tapering) perhaps, or not include it at all, what do you think?

taper

I believe they are using the English word "taper" here, as in fibre tapering.

I found this useful: http://www.bath.ac.uk/physics/groups/cppm/tapers.php

hope this is helpful.
