Que veut dire l'expression : "it stands very close to the elbow (to do sth)"
Le contexte est un peu glauque, c'est sur la question de savoir si l'infanticide est acceptable dans le cas d'enfants très lourdement handicapés

Ce que je crois comprendre c'est que a personne trouve bizarre, déplacé, inapproprié d'oser poser une question de ce genre. Mais ce n'est qu'une vague intuition

J'essaie de rester dans la ligne de suberg et Daryo en discussion.
Aux entournures (= emmanchures) permet de garder l'idée du contact corporel... je pense.
- Rarement film au sujet apparemment si léger se sera révélée aussi gênant aux
entournures pour les bien-pensants que nous sommes.
- ce film « discrètement fantastique » emprunte parfois les sentiers d'un «

Close to (or near) the bone: likely to cause offence because near the limit of decency.

That would then mean that it's a question "too close to home for comfort" a very uncomfortable question that you can't simply ignore, as it's not happening somewhere far away, it's there just next to you and it could be affecting you personally.
That seems to me far more plausible than any interpretation that it's about some kind of "moral outrage" attitude. But even this is still just a guess, albeit less unlikely.
