Gastroschisis is a rare congenital disorder in which a defect is present in the wall of the abdomen. Typically there is a small abdominal cavity with herniated abdominal organs that usually appear on the right side of the abdomen. There is no membranous sac covering the organs and the intestines may be swollen and look shortened due to exposure to the liquid that surrounds the fetus during pregnancy (amniotic fluid).

SCHISIS - hasadékos rendellenességek: agyhiány, agysérv, nyitott grinc, ajak- és szájpadhasadék, hasfal- és rekeszrendellenességek kialakulásában az a közös, hogy a magzati fejlődés során a két oldalról középirányba haladó szöveteknek egyesülniük kell és a sebesség lelassúbbodása az egyesülés elmaradásához vezet. Hasadékos rendellenességről akkor beszélünk, ha az emlitett rendellenességek közül kettő vagy több egymással társul és és más súlyos fejlődési rendellenesség nem fordul elő. A szakszótár szerint ez az elnevezés. Fejlődési rendelenesség következménye. A "Nyitott hasfal" lehet más miatt is, pl. nem záródó műtéti heg. Szakembereknek használható a "gastroschisis".
