Italian term

banca passiva

Italian to English Bus/Financial Finance (general) internet banking
Contesto: internet banking.

- la banca attiva è quella banca che fornisce al cliente il servizio di internet banking;

Discussion

Robert Chroscicki May 12, 2017:
CIB term "Executing bank" is the term used by the Italian consortium that manages the connection infrastructure for consortium member banks, to provide them with online links with clients and to achieve national and international interoperability in service delivery.

"CBI is a service that transmits online data flows relating to banking and commercial transactions provided by a bank (the Access Bank) to a company who is a customer not only of the Access Bank, but also of other banks known as the Executing Banks."

hahahaha :-) Glad to know I'm not completely alone!!!
James (Jim) Davis Apr 15, 2013:
I was about to say what is an "external bank", but I stand corrected, even Yahoo knows what an external bank is http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090813051736AA...
Linda Thody Apr 15, 2013:
@ Jim Yes Jim but it is being translated into English! Not necessarily for people acquainted with the Italian banking system. I'd say your average English speaker would not understand anything by passive bank. Perhaps Halifax should also tell us which banking sector this is: retail or business? Might change a lot of things :-)
James (Jim) Davis Apr 15, 2013:
@Lindy The question is why have two or more bank accounts? I asked the finance director of an Italian company that question about 20 years ago. The answer was that the banks were so small one alone wasn't large enough to give even a medium-sized company all the loans it needed, or if it was, was not willing to run the concentration risk. At the time in the UK there were only three major high street banks and any one of them could easily provide all the credit even the largest companies like Fords or ICI might need.
Consequently in Italy the Corporate Banking Internet system was born where a company could manage its five or ten accounts with different banks from one system. No one word will explain that. The difference between an "external bank" and a "passive bank" is that if you asked a business person acquainted with Italy what a passive bank was you might get an answer. If you asked one what an "external" bank was you wouldn't.

external banks

This is a service offered by some online banks which allow you to download a password safe to be able to view all your accounts in one place. Usually referred to as Money Manager. The accounts with other organisations are referred to as external accounts so I'd tend to opt for external banks.
Eg. see this:

See all your accounts
See the balances for your other online bank and building society accounts, along with your Yorkshire balances when you login. That could be your credit and store cards, current account, loan and even your mortgage. Just one click will take you straight to your other banks' websites and you won't need to log in again. With some organisations you may be asked to provide additional verification.

neutral James (Jim) Davis : Might be better just use a literal translation and call them "passive" banks. There is no similar system I know of in the UK. It is part of the CBI system. Discuss

EG: Yorkshire Building Society (definitely UK!) offers internet banking users the possibility of seeing their accounts with OTHER banks all in one place, which is what I understand here Jim. I may be wrong. But what might a "passive" bank be?
agree FinWord : third-party provider (as with CC and BP in Italy that often resell credit cards or other services from 3rd party or centralized provider: ICCREA, ISTPOP, etc.)

agree Pompeo Lattanzi : In the sense of "participating" or "linked" banks. Definitely NOT "passive".
